A Weekend to Remember: Celebrating Princess Elora’s 1st Birthday

It has been a long while since I last attended social events due to the nature of my work. As a fashion designer I'm constantly occupied, chasing deadlines and ensuring that I deliver the best services to my customers. But last weekend, the story changed after so many months, I had to hit the pause button for work and hit the play button for a friend's daughter birthday. It is the one year birthday of Elora.

Well, it seems that August is an event-packed month for me because I have another birthday event slated for this weekend. With the deadlines that I'm trying my best to meet up with I could have declined the invite but the lady specifically told me that she would not forgive me if I don't come and also reminded me that I missed her son's birthday sometimes last year. So, it is a must-attend event for me.

Considering how my schedule have been tight in recent time, I must admit that I had an amazing time at the birthday event. It was the perfect excuse for me to take a break away from work and unwind with some good music and delicious party meals. The birthday party was scheduled for 2pm but I had to arrive earlier because I was delivering the celebrant’s mother’s dress which I made for her. I will be sharing the process of making her stunning dress on my blog soon.

Since I arrived early I had to join hands to wrap up a few remaining tasks before the guests started trooping in. I assisted in cooling the drinks in a large cooler which we filled with some ice blocks and to also supervise the preparation of small chops. At the same time, the event decorators were beautifying the photo area with balloons, ribbons and flowers and a banner which reads - Happy Birthday Princess Elora.

Not long after, the DJ showed up and started setting up his equipment. Before you know it the place was buzzing with music that both the young and the young-at-heart could vibe to. Then the MC/Host took over the event by entertaining us with kids' rhymes, jokes and riddles that kept the party lively.

The fun moments the kids will remember was the game segment. The MC invited interested children to participate in several exciting games and cash prizes were given given out to the winners. It was an interesting set of games that thrilled all that were present.

So, while the games sessions was going on, food and drinks were served to the guests from jollof rice to pounded yam to small chops and drinks.

Then it was time for the photograph session where we are all expected to snap with the celebrant but to everyone’s surprise, baby Elora had dozed off. Yes, the beautiful birthday girl was enjoying her beauty sleep when her birthday was ongoing. Thankfully, the mom had use her phone to take some shots when she was still wide awake enjoying her party. So, we went ahead to take the group pictures in that adorable sleeping position. I can imagine her reaction when she sees the pictures when she's older.

The birthday party was an all-round success. Though there were some points it seems like it was going to rain but the drizzle didn’t last for long. This is one of the fears of holding outdoor events during the rainy season.
