Return of MTV? - The Web App

Just a short post today. Yesterday I wrote something of a eulogy for MTV. If you missed it, go give it a read. I dressed it up in somewhat mythical language and had some fun. See here if you missed it.

I do have good memories of the channel. It was one of the mainstays of my childhood. No matter what else was going on, I knew I could always turn to channel 14 and enjoy some music videos. Good times.

I wanted to share a web app I came across.

Go here to find the NOA MTV webapp. It has a number of "channels"

  • 1980s
  • 1990s
  • 2000s
  • rock
  • and more

It also has a "shows" channel, for those who are just dying to revisit that. I wouldn't recommend it, but whatever. Then again, Beavis and Butthead videos are included. As dumb as that show was, it had a certain charm. Still — not much there. Stick to the music channels.

I don't know how many videos there are. I have kept the 80s and 90s channels on for awhile in the background and haven't has any repeats yet.

I can't imagine this will last. Looking at the about screen, the programmar says he is sourcing all videos from YouTube. The record companies kind of look the other way to uploads on there but I can't imagine they'd be very happy with a site that collects them all in one place. That in mind, this site might not be up too long — enjoy it while you can!

Wow, that is pretty neat. I bookmarked it and plan to use it as listening for background when studying and writing. Pulled up the 80's and started jamming earlier.

Interesting! I loved MTV back in the 80's, it was an awesome channel. Sadly it gradually turned to reality shows and I think that's what killed it. Nice webapp, thanks!
