It's Hive Power-Up Day! for December 2024

So here we are, the last Hive Power-Up Day (HPUD) of 2024. Another year almost gone. So now tomorrow is Monday and that's my Hive Goals post day, so I'm not going to get too far into the weeds here like I do in those posts, but I do want to show my power-up and briefly look back at 2024.

For starters, a short intro. HPUD is when we all power-up some hive. Pretty simple, eh? We can of course power up on any day of the month; HPUD is just here for an added social push, or maybe just for the fun of doing something all together.

Hive Power Up Day uses UTC time, so it started about an hour ago as of this posting. If time zones confuse you, as they do me, go see this recent post of mine to read all about some solutions.

If you have at least 10 Hive that you can power-up, you will get a badge from doing so. I mean, sure, badges are a little silly, but they are a fun perk. Think of them as achievements in your favorite game. If you are under level 70 then you might get some big rewards for powering-up as well, like a lot of Hive in delegations. Alas! I'm over level 70, so no rewards for me. But it's ok, I enjoy supporting the platform.

If you've been following along with me on this adventure, you know that I usually power up 200 every HPUD. I pick a low number like that because ever since Hive became cheap this past summer, I've been buying it and have been powering up 50-100 everyday. I guess that makes my 200 on HPUD kind of par for the course for me, but I want to participate in the day.

Today, I considered doing something different. I was within 8 HIVE of my 40k stretch goal for 2024 so I thought maybe I only power up 8 HIVE? But then I thought what the heck, let's keep things consistent, so I powered up the same 200 HIVE as usual. That puts me at exactly 40,192.213 as I write this.

Growing stronger!!

Does this mean orcahood is within my future? Maybe!

I started these Hive Goal posts in 2023. I joined Hive way back in 2017 but I never really invested any of my own money, just using what post earnings got me. Finally in 2023 I decided to start putting money in. I started the year at 7,969.25 Hive Power and set the kind of crazy goal of 25k. I didn't make it, but I did get close, making it to 21,531.700. The crazy part was I actually didn't put a lot of my own money in that year. I just got lucky a few times in the swing trade game, timing the jumps from HIVE to HBD and back again fairly well.

So 2024 started with that, 21,531.700, and now I have almost doubled it! This time I did put a lot of my own money in. Things weren't looking good for that, but then Hive dived down in price half way through the year and I started buying.

40k. Wow. What is it to be an orca these days? Around 55k? 60k? Maybe I should then make that my goal for next year. I'm not sure yet. Before deciding on my goal for next year, I think I'm going to look at what I manage to gain in December. I don't think I will continue my 50-100 daily powerup in December (but then again, maybe I will!) so we'll have to see what organic growth gets me.

Anyway, look for more thoughts on that in tomorrow's Hive Goals post!

If you missed out on today's HPUD, don't worry, there will be another next month. But that next month will be here before you know it. I suggest following @hivebuzz and/or @traciyork so you will be reminded a few days before the next one.

I haven't put any government money into crypto, so you're on track to surpass my holdings before too long at this rate! !BEER

I figure what the heck. That gov money is badly inflating. Just in the past few years it's lost 20% of its value. Might as well gamble and throw it into HIVE.
