I Want My MTV - A Christmas Gift
Another Christmas has come and gone, as Charlie Brown would say. It was fun. My kids enjoyed it—hope yours did as well.
Speaking of kids, mine are just 10 and 7 so I don't expect any presents from them. Nor will I ever ask for any, even when they are older. I just enjoy being with them and don't need anything more than that. I imagine this feeling will just become stronger as I and they age.
That said, they usually try to get me some kind of surprise. Usually a picture they draw or something clever they fold, of just a handmade card. I love their cards and have saved every one.
This year, they got me something that actually cost money. Not only that, but something that looks like it was either special ordered or picked up at one of the import stores in the mall. I imagine my wife may have had something to do with it, given the theme.
It's this!
A lego boombox, complete with cassette and MTV logo. My oldest knows what a boombox is and he knows cassettes, but I don't think he's aware enough to know these were the essential items when I was a kid. Maybe he thought it just looked cool in the store, but I suspect my wife was whispering in his ear that I would like it.
It's interesting being at an age when all the things I grew up with are considered retro and are coming back as these collector toys, aimed at the people among my generation who now have more disposable income and are taken by nostalgia.
Anyway, I was going to do a time lapse of me putting it together with my kids (I mostly let them do the putting together) but I couldn't find my tripod attachment for the iPhone, so I decided to just take a few photos showing the progress.
I want my MTV!!
I'm not really a fan of this kind of thing. I mean I love the nostalgia. But I can enjoy the memories of my childhood without having a bunch of junk clogging up my house.
That said, I appreciate the thoughtful gift and I'll let it sit displayed on my bookshelf in between a photos of both kids.

That’s pretty cool.
It is an excellent gift, my respect, dear friend, they made an effort and it looks fun, good post, greetings
Haha, that is pretty cool! I can't remember the last time I got a Lego set. It's hard to buy for parents as they get older, they usually have everything they need.
Lego sets seem surprisingly popular for everyone these days. There are even pretty expensive sets aimed at our generation. Last time I was in the store I saw a Back to the Future Delorean that was something like $200, a giant Yoda that was also super expensive, and lots of flower sets. It seems like Lego has mostly replaces the old model sets that we grew up with. Easier to make and therefore more attractive to people, I suppose.
Yeah, that is a good point. You really don't see model sets like you used to. Maybe if you are able to still find a hobby shop. Hobby Lobby might still have an aisle of them. Some of those Lego sets are insane expensive.
MTV is what caught me. I tried looking for MTV here in Japan at my friends' house as they have over 50,000 channels through some special app thingy. Could not find it. They had MTV base which shows African content.
That is a cool gift, simple but with a lot of meaning. Kudos to them for choosing it. Happy Holidays dude. I am here on my last leg of work taking in the HIVE;)
It's just like that we wait for events for a long time they come and go and the time doesn't seem to pass it's good that you bought this item and are already enjoying it.
Wow! It's a cool Christmas gift. I love the retro colours of it. I really enjoyed MTV when I was young, especially BEAVIS AND BUTT-HEAD!
hahaha Beavis and Butthead...
He said head. heh heh heh
Cool! I used to have these dolls! Thank you;)
By the way..., (this is a totally different topic but) do you still have your NFT photography? I couldn't find your name on the NFT Showroom.
Unfortunately the NFT Showroom denied me. They told me that photography isn't art and only art can be an NFT. So I put my photos on opensea, for example here. But ETH or BTC (which that site uses) is less convenient than Hive and has high fees, so no one buys anything. Oh well.
Oh, I am sorry to hear that and thank you for telling me that. I checked the opensea link. Beautiful!
I thought I saw yours before, so I wanted buy yours through the NFT Showroom this time.
For me, I tried to upload my art through opensea before but I failed the minting process… The image was broken. then I switched to the NFT Showroom.
Thank you for the interest 😃 I will keep trying to get on NFT Showroom.
