Where My Money Goes, And How I Plan To Keep Some This Year
When I think about saving money, I always remember how my father sat me down one evening after I wasted my whole pocket money on snacks and silly things. He said, “Money is like water, if you don’t hold your cup well, it leaks.” At that time it sounded funny, but now it makes heavy sense. In 2025, I looked at my spending and I realized I was holding my cup upside down the whole time.
So, 2026 is like a small promise year for me. Not a big dramatic change, but a slow learning kind of change. My plan to save money is not fancy. I want to start by separating needs from wants. For example, food is a need, new sneakers every month is a want. Transportation is a need, eating out everyday is a want. It sounds simple in words, but in real life, temptations come quicker than salary.
The biggest change I want to make is tracking my money. I also learned it from my mother’s way of keeping a small book where she writes daily spending, even 200 of something. I used to laugh at her, saying the paper is worth more than the note she recorded. But she was right. At end of month she always knew where her money went. Me? I only knew that my balance was crying.
My plan for saving this year is also tied to goals. I want to save for emergencies, because life doesn’t warn us first. I want to save for small investments, because my father always said, “Don’t be old before you plant.” And also I want to save to spoil myself but only after I earn it, not before.
The truth is, saving money is not about being stingy or living bitter. It’s about making sure your future self is not angry at your present self. And I think this will change my life in small but strong ways. Less stress when unexpected things happen. More peace knowing I have a backup. And more pride that I’m learning something nobody teaches in school properly.
So if I ask you, “How do you save your money?” I’m not asking as expert, but as someone still learning. Maybe you have tricks, or maybe you are also leaking water from your cup. Whichever way, we will learn. It’s part of growing.

I have always saved for years now and just like your mother, I track my spendings. I have a budget app that I have been consistent with for over two years now and it always works. Saving for emergency is also very necessary because responsibility will not inform you when it comes. It will come rushing like a flood without warning you in advance. So, it’s good to start saving and planning ahead.
Yeah thanks for your contribution

You make a list of preferences. For instance getting food stuff, instead of buying retail. I will advise you to buy in bulk and it will last more and you spend less than buying one one when the need comes.
Yeah thanks

Ever since I learned how to save, I don't joke with my savings. I make sure to save the least out of every of my earnings.
"The line that says money is like water if you don't hold your cup well it's leaks." Yes, I planned spending and budgeting will make the cup of money not to leak unnecessarily
