The Forgotten Scientists Who Changed the World

(Edited)

There are many great scientist in which their names can never be forgotten and their discovery has really help the modern world today. The likes of Albert Einstein, Michael Faraday, Isaac Newton Galileo, curie and so on.whereas there are so many great scientist who has great to existence that their name can hardly be seen in textbook, brochure or school journal and Some of this scientist have done wonderful deeds and their name should not be forgotten just like that.

One of the great scientist is Rosalind Franklin she is the chemistry behind X-ray diffraction images which revealed the structure of DNA. Her famous “Photo 51” is the most X-ray crystallography image in the world. And that photo that was key to the discovery of the structure of DNA and she did this along with her PHD student Raymond goslings. Through this discovery Watson and Crick are able to provide a critical evidence that propose the double helix structure of DNA through their model. But Sadly, Franklin’s role was largely overshadowed, and recognition only came years after her death. Without her, what we understand about genetics might have taken many years longer.

Another great scientific overlooked figure is name is Ignaz Semmelweis, a Hungarian physician in the 19th century. He was able to know that women in maternity wards often died from infections after being treated by doctors who didn’t wash their hands. Then this man was able introduced handwashing with chlorinated water and it works, and mortality rates dropped dramatically. And for him to be celebrated celebrated, he faced ridicule from the medical community of his time. Today, his “crazy” idea is the foundation of modern hygiene practices.

Another to mention is Henrietta Leavitt, an astronomer at the Harvard College Observatory. She is the one that discovered the relationship between a star’s brightness and its pulsation period, known as the “Leavitt Law.” her research work gave a solid breakthrough to the present astronomers a reliable way to measure cosmic distances, paving the way for Hubble’s discovery of the expanding universe. Yet, for many years, her contribution was hidden under the shadow of male colleagues.

Stories like these can always remind us that the scientific progress we have in today are start by great people who has put in a lot of effort to the work of one “genius” alone. It is actually woven by many hands some celebrated,in which many are forgotten. Recognition often arrives too late, or not at all, but the impact of these scientists continues to shows through our world.

In my own perspective to this, learning about this great people always adds a human layer to science. It shows us that behind every breakthrough and every modernization of today easy life are from the real people who has struggling against skepticism, limited resources, put in mo excuse and still driven by curiosity and persistence.
Whenever we went through or practice the modern medicine, space exploration, or genetic research, let’s not forgotten the great work of this scientists. They may not all have statues or Nobel Prizes, but they quietly changed the course of history.
