Lessons Life Taught Me That School Couldn’t

Hello Hive family, Thanks for this opportunity to write about what life has taught me.

Today, am excited to share something deep and real not from a textbook, not from a lecture, but from life itself to me personally.

Growing up, I believed that school had all the answers to success which we all want in life. I worked hard, passed exams, and did everything right. I thought once I had my degree, life would become simple, smooth and succeed. But when I left school and stepped into the real world, I realized something life is a more different kind of classroom, and its lessons come through experiences, not chalk and board.

After graduating and serving in Delta State during NYSC, reality hit me hard. I saw things that lectures never prepared me for living to encounter, far from home, handling responsibilities alone, dealing with people from different cultures, and facing disappointment even little things, I once had to go days with little food, and I had to smile through it like everything was fine. Life taught me how to be strong even when you feel weak inside.

In tough times, I gained wisdom that no professor could give or offer through life. I learned that not everyone will support you, and not every plan will work out and that’s okay I won't stop. I discovered that failure is not the end but a teacher to lean forward. There were moments I cried in silence, moments I almost gave up, but I kept going.

Life taught me the value of patience that everything takes time. It taught me humility, that no matter how smart you are, you’ll still need help and you can't do it all alone, It taught me to listen more, speak less, and never look down on anyone. These are lessons I never found in any school note.

I also learned skills outside the classroom how to communicate better, how to survive with little, how to think fast, how to adapt quick even in difficult situations. I’ve done jobs I never imagined, taken paths I didn’t plan, and somehow, I’m still standing. Not perfect, but growing and moving.

One of the most powerful lessons life taught me is to keep learning every day. Learning doesn’t stop it continues even after graduation. Every challenge is a teacher. Every mistake is a lesson. And every new day is a chance to become better than yesterday. That's my key motivation.

So, to anyone out there feeling lost or tired, don’t give up. Life is not meant to be easy, but every rough road teaches you something to keep. I’m still learning, still falling, still rising and I believe that’s what makes this journey beautiful for me.

Thank you for reading. Let’s keep moving forward, we are almost there.

Not everything is thought within the school walls. A lot is left to be experienced and learnt as one lives on.

A lot of people including myself used to think that learning ends with university education. Some people still do but that's a wrong mindset. Learning continues every single day in one way or the other even if we fail to realise it.
