Weekend-Engagement #265: What are you doing this weekend and why?

Front view at the sea

My weekends have to be planned based on different needs: we have a small child, so clearly we have to adapt to his needs/desires, but on the other hand, you can’t just bore yourself doing things that are dull for you, there has to be the right balance. In summer, the typical weekend, like the one that just passed, includes going to the beach on Saturday; we’ve always gone to the beach on Saturdays in the summer, and now with a small child we go even more. The beach lets you escape the heat of the city, you can cool off and take a dip whenever you want, just relax and enjoy doing nothing; clearly, it’s ideal for a child too, playing with the sand, playing in the waves, running along the shore… of course, unexpected things are always around the corner; in the morning it was cloudy and very windy, not a day for the beach, but the forecast said the wind would die down and the sun would come out around noon. So, we took advantage of the morning and did the weekly shopping, making productive use of the time until lunchtime. Then, as forecasted, the weather improved and we went to the beach until evening.

An other pleasant view at the sea

Sunday is usually dedicated to softer activities. Kids need to blow off steam, to run, to move, so I decided to take him to the playground. We have many here, and since we had some old stale bread, I took the opportunity to go to the park with ducks and turtles, so the bread wouldn’t go to waste. The little one and I had fun feeding the animals, and then he got to play while I watched him, relaxing in the shade on a bench.

Feeding turtles

In the afternoon, since it was really hot, we stayed on the balcony, he played with water (learning to pour and transfer it between cups), and I read a book.

So, when you're a parent, you always have to find the right balance between your children's needs and your own, because it's only fair that everyone gets to have a pleasant weekend, without favoring one over the other too much.

Free geese at the park

Did you take them? You said they were free!

Your turtle photo is something that I've not seen before - I've only ever seen them alone, never in a larger collective.

Haha they are excellent guardians, I should definitely bring them at home

There are many more spread around, when you throw food they mass to compete for it. That's an other one

A perfect weekend includes the beach, it's a good option when you have small children, they really like to play in the sand. What you say is true; when you have children, there must be a balance between the needs of both the children and us, the parents. It was a pleasure reading you. Greetings. 😊
