Convictions at all costs / Convicciones a toda costa (eng-esp)
Greetings, friends.
Today I want to delve deeper into something I mentioned: that quality of upholding one's convictions "at all costs." It sounds dramatic, but in practice it's something much more down-to-earth and difficult. It means that there are lines that are not crossed, regardless of the pressure, the loneliness, or the benefit offered by crossing them. It's non-negotiable.
History is full of women who understood this. I'm not just talking about famous figures, but also about anonymous women who, in their own spheres, refused to give in.
The mother who defends her daughter's education against an oppressive tradition. The professional who refuses to participate in a dishonest practice, even if it's the norm in her industry.
These decisions come at a price. Sometimes it's paid with isolation, with criticism, with the loss of a material benefit. Conviction is tested precisely when it has a cost. If it doesn't, it wasn't a conviction; it was a preference.
This isn't about stubbornness or wanting to be right. Nor is it about proving something to the world. It's about proving it to yourself. Being able to look in the mirror every morning and recognize the person you see.
If you compromise on what's fundamental, that image becomes tarnished. You stop trusting yourself. Conviction, in essence, is a pact of integrity you make with yourself. It's the promise that you won't betray yourself, even when others ask you to or tempt you to.
That's why the strength that comes from this doesn't boast. It doesn't need to win an argument. It's an internal resilience, a moral backbone that supports everything else.
Cultivating it is the most important work. Because in a world that constantly demands we give in, that we adapt until we disappear, that we prioritize the approval of others, that quiet firmness is what defines us. It's not a shout. It's the clear, low voice that says "no" when everything expects a "yes." And in that "no" lies immense freedom: the freedom to finally be your own master.

Saludos, amigas.
