Love in Poetry

When viewed from the perspective of its true essence, love is a subject that can't be easily captured. It's one that demands time, effort and a whole lot of work. Except what is perceived as love today is just its shambles, it demands more I reiterate—more than mere words. The perception would be wrong if all that it took to show this feeling was some words.

Perhaps I might be wrong. Yeah, wrong because I find that with the right set of words, put in a manner that evokes emotions and all the affection that resonates within, the right atmosphere of love can be created. With certainty that those words uttered were true and honest. These set of words in the right approach is what I agree to be poetry.

An age long means of conveying evoking messages is the medium known as poetry. With its devices such as simile, metaphors, personification, hyperbole, onomatopoeia...it stands as a great tool—the best you might consider, to provide the right approach and flow for such messages. A message can only be good as the medium that conveys it, or one it’s being conveyed through.

The world has come to know of poetry and essentially the conveyors of it; poets. History will be unfair to deny the prestige of such individuals through the work of poetry they delivered. Laureates have proven this as a wide resourceful tool for powerful expressions of messages, giving it life and depth.

Poetry uses tools like imagery to depict and create a clear scenario in the minds of listeners or readers being addressed. This causes the reader/listener to be entirely captured and left thinking, creating a lasting memory of what the words have created in their minds. With this, messages get express passage and a retention on the minds of the audience meant for.

If poetry could do all this, I think it serves much enough or even best as that medium to capture the subject of love. This love can be in different forms, but I believe poetry has the potential to create the needed impact in whatever respect it's addressing. I think it's safe to say then that, “love is found in poetry and poetry is expressive of love”.

Poetry has proven to evoke the necessary emotions for one showing their love to a loved one; be it lover, family, friend. It will be hard to take away poetry from love. It's ability to connect with the reader or intended audience; like for someone it was particularly written for tells it all. The smile, the blushing, the joy and all the emotions building up agrees with it. Thanks to poetry playing a great role in the subject of love.

With this, I'll like to share below a poem that we knew while growing up. It's a poem of affection for a mother—an expression of a child's love to his or her mother. Find it below;

My Mother by Ann Taylor

Who sat and watched my infant head?
When sleeping on my cradle bed,
And tears of sweet affection shed?
My Mother.

When pain and sickness made me cry,
Who gazed upon my heavy eye,
And wept for fear that I should die?
My Mother.

Who taught my infant lips to pray?
And love God’s holy book and day,
And walk in wisdom’s pleasant way?
My Mother.

And can I ever cease to be,
Affectionate and kind to thee,
Who wast so very kind to me,
My Mother?

Ah, no! the thought I cannot bear,
And if God please my life to spare,
I hope I shall reward they care,
My Mother.

When thou art feeble, old and grey,
My healthy arm shall be thy stay,
And I will soothe thy pains away,
My Mother.
