Electricity Supply: How It Looks Like Here

IMG-20250523-WA0123-01.jpeg

The issue of light; electrical power supply, is one thing that has remained a problem and a complaint over time. Even the upcoming generation has gotten to know this issue that their parents and grandparents have known; that is, don't trust the supply of electricity, if you do, do so at your own peril because certainly, they've learnt to cut hopes short more than they cut the power transmitting wires.

At times, I try to reason this, like should the people working in these power supply companies be blamed, or is it the company and the system that should be blamed? I've seen, or perhaps heard of hilarious stories where even at the local area offices of these companies, you would find them using generators for power supply. What hope then does the general public have?

If there's a system, or sector that the masses have lost hope on is the power sector. It's unfortunate that for a nation that supplies electricity to a neighbouring nation-to the extent they celebrate uninterrupted power supply for over a good period-still suffers to do the same for its citizens. You could feel in some way that this is all a deliberate act, a systemic failure.

By virtue of this, many people have resolved to other alternatives. For the most part, many use generators, powered by premium motor spirit (PMS), and others with better economic standing turn to solar power for electricity supply in their households. And I must say that such resolve towards solar power is more appealing, since we have a good amount of sunlight here, and then for clean and sustainable energy's sake.

Growing up to a point, the narrative and experience about the awful nature of the electricity supply remained. I vividly remember a certain time when I would come home for several holidays, but I wouldn't always come across electricity. We just managed to charge phones and moved on with it like that. There had been a transformer issue, or something I guess. It wasn't a new thing.

Now, the hilarious part of this painful experience is when it's said that a transformer was stolen. The last time I heard such-a friend told me some months back-it sounded hilarious and I couldn't help but chuckle. Like, how does an active, operational and mounted transformer get stolen? We wondered. But yes, that's not a new story. Though it hasn't really happened in my area, it has occurred in other areas.

Fortunately, I find myself today in an area where the supply of electricity is commendable, if not outstanding. Yes, it's a bit of a surprise to hear of such. Don't get it twisted though, I don't stay in a GRA (Government Reserved Area) or in one of the areas predominantly occupied by the elites. I'm just a fortunate fellow, in a fortunate area, enjoying the fortune of a good electricity supply.

The use of a prepaid meter seems predominant here. To some extent, it feels best. I reckon with that because for a good light supply of virtually a complete day, the power company would end up extorting you, were you to be using a postpaid connection. While the electricity supply issue remains valid, true and a concern, some good fortune must have located us here.

So prepaid meter seems more advantage right?

Yes, though it's of some disadvantage too, because you cancel out or limit some of the appliances you tend to use in order to maximise the units on the meter. But it's good, if not the estimated bill that would be charged by the power company could be outrageously high.

The supply of electricity is really a crucial problem just as you have spoken sir and alot of us has lost hope for a steady electricity. Even though am hoping for such issues to be resolved, am also using prepaid meter, so I don't really get too bothered, because I know my unit can only get consumed if there is light, rather than paying a high light bill at the end of every month when even the supply of the light is limited.

That's right. It's better to use a prepaid meter on these cases, if not these company will extort one for electricity they didn't use. We hope such times be restored, and the power supply becomes better than ever even.

There’s no light at all in my school. We all depend on generators to do things.

Now that's serious. It shouldn't be happening, not especially in an educational environment and setting. Students use gadgets, and depend on it for their academic. It's absurd, but we hope this gets better.

Those who can afford solar power should go for it and stop depending on our power holding companies for power supply as they tend to disappoint.

True. It's a better option for better power supply. I hope somehow this power issue gets addressed.

Before this country electric supply becomes to standard for every region, it will definitely take time and only good knows when. If one can afford solar I think that's the best...

Yes, if one can afford solar power, go for it without hesitation. The electricity situation is a long journey towards stability and what should be a standard.

There was a time like that, I went to the NEPA office to make some payments and I found a worker struggling to put on the generator, I cant just help but smile...
Sadly, that's the situation we find ourselves in. We won't stop hoping for a change.

Hmmm, that's hilarious and sad at the same time.
Yes, we'll keep hoping.

I agree with you on the use of prepaid meter and this is because of its advantage of paying for what you use. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, you pay for what you use only. No over charging issues. Thank you.

I think we have similar experiences. A prepaid meter is better than the postpaid due to the rate of charges and instability of power.

It's better seriously. If not, people will be paying outrageous bills they didn't use a good portion of it.

Yes, it is a shame to know that our dear country applies uninterrupted power to neighbouring country while over 80% of citizens languish in the pit of black outs .

But I am also happy that this power supply is improving in some areas after the introduction of some measures by the commisson

This shows that all hopes are not yet lost.

Yes, all hope is not lost. Even though the narrative is a pitiful one, we hope it gets better.
