Do The Little Things Matter?
In a world filled with the desires of many, and virtually everyone to make it big, “do the little things matter?” Especially that we all seem to have big dreams, big aspirations, big desires, and there's nothing little about them all. Should the little things matter then?
Well, that's a thought and examination that could matter a lot, maybe most especially to the current generation. The “make it big and quick syndrome” seems to be eating up already; within like a cancer and outside like a wildfire.
When I speak of “the little things”, the perspective and idea isn't about resources, alone. It's also, and perhaps much more about processes, efforts, actions, results and everything that such instances encapsulate. Let it not be a sinking idea that what is considered is about the things seen and touched alone, but rather a much more and broader consideration of that which isn't. That should even form the basic idea here.
This happened to cross my mind last morning, and I couldn't help but wonder if we really pay attention to the little things. Many people have despised and rejected many things because they looked little at the moment. But like a seed, such things grew over time to become huge and successful trees, bearing fruit even.
It's said that “drops of water make an ocean” and truly so. If the streams and rivers which are little water bodies don't flow, continuously into the ocean, there won't be one available. And guess what? Nobody knows or even cares to know the rivers and streams, however, the large oceans and seas are what the world knows, and cares to know. Perhaps, such is the reason many don't consider the little things.
The little steps we make in life matter most. “The journey of a thousand miles starts with a step”, so goes the famous saying. Truthfully, that's how we make progress; adding up the little things, little steps, little achievements to make a huge result. Sadly, many aren't patient enough to flow with the process until the expected results surface.
Honestly, it could be really hard to keep up with the little progress and processes. It could feel like using a spoon to fill a bucket with water. You know that's an extremely difficult thing to do, if it's even a thing to do. We all could in a way be desiring of the goal ahead, thereby looking to it only and neglecting the buildup to it.
So here's it, it would be good if one learned to acknowledge their little, time-to-time successes, and the progress or processes. Celebrate and see them as a thing. This will keep them in one's heart as something remarkable, that matters and not just a passage of time in anticipation of a big wonderful outcome.
The character to recognise and appreciate the little things can be encouraged when we make them clearly known in our success stories. Let it not be the results and accolades that are known, but the growth process, the bit-by-bit efforts, culminating in the desired end should also be placed in great focus and detail.
Images are mine.
Indeed a journey with a thousand or million miles starts with just a step. That ignition is very necessary. @daverick thanks for sharing
Yeah, it's necessary. The little steps are what matters most.
Every little thing matters alot because it's those same little things that sum up to become something bigger. Thank you for this @daverick
Absolute.
Thank you for the comment.
