Children's Day: Evening Spent With A Group Of Teenagers
Children are wonderful and great, a very interesting set of human beings you could find. Seeing them at times takes me down memory lane of what it meant to be a child; a life with little or no worries, the joy and overwhelming happiness, the ease with life, not having to care and provide for oneself, and the hilarious confidence in the parents capability to provide all they needed, even if that meant an airplane. Childhood is a gift; one that should be treated as such, likewise a wonderful adventure.
Today, the 27th day of May marks the annual children's day celebration. For some reason, I don't know how or why that celebration came to be on the calendar, but it holds a special place in the life of every child and anyone connected to a child, one way or another, directly or indirectly. I've seen tons of people online celebrating the little ones in their lives, and I must say it's a massive and wonderful thing.
This makes these young ones feel loved and cared for. It's one thing a child needs to know. So, on a day like this, every child deserves to be shown that love and how special they are. I guess it's always a big one for the children too, because they get to be away from school for a day. Chuckles. More to all of that, I consider it should be a time to draw them to the realities of life and the things that matter. When a child has this foreknowledge, it will go a long way to inspire them and shape them for the future.
There were plans I had, months ago alongside a group of persons in celebration and commemoration of this wonderful day. For some reason, it didn't work out. Nevertheless, something still came around and that made me have one of the best children's day event, moment, celebration I could think of currently.
On this wonderful day, the youth fellowship wing of my church decided it was going to be a moment of fellowship, interaction and connection with the younger ones. This was largely with the hope of creating or forming a bond with them, who are inherently the future youths with the passage of time. All this was with the hope of drawing closer for a connection, to see that the future of the fellowship and the church would be well secured.
The highlights of the meeting captured a little moment of singing/worship. After which a game to help us know each other was conducted. You make an introduction calling the name of the person who made theirs before you, as if it was a one on one conversation. It was really nice. After that, the main session of interaction took place.
The children were already assigned to a member of the youth fellowship in numbers of one, two, three and more in different cases. The interaction took place for 45 minutes or more. We shared with them in our individual groups about life; our journey thus far in our walk with God and how we've come to be where we are presently. The former life, present life, challenges, sacrifices, difficulties, benefit were all discussed and analysed.
That being done, we all gathered together once again and a few things were carried out. The children-who were mostly teenagers-were encouraged and then appreciated for coming around for the auspicious event. After all that, a little refreshment was served round to all present. And that marked the end of the gathering that evening. I'll say it was really worth it, and hoped it will be better and more next year.
