Changing The Landscape

One of such things we don't get the privilege of making a choice is the country we originate from. By the solemn act of being born there into the family of a man and woman who are citizens of that country, we become a part and parcel of it. Funny how a choice we never made could weigh so heavily upon us later on in life. I guess it's safe to say our countries chose us; a choice many in my country would never oblige to if they had the slightest of chance.

I look at my country and realise how something beautiful, with a good purpose has turned into something appalling. "The labour of heroes past" now exchanged for infidelity and all forms of selfish, cruel desires. Undeniably, I love my country, and with that love is the burden and desire to see it become something better than what it is. It seems however, like it will never get to that point—as many think and perceive. Well, maybe not; if only the political sector can undergo a transformation.

Yes, if I could change something to make my country better, I'll go heads on towards the political sphere like a warrior confronting his enemies. It's so appalling what we have as politics today in my country. The ideals of leadership have been redefined in a negative sense; where the leader is a "lord" and the followers or masses are just mere "servants." It's a total contradiction to the ideals of true leadership; one that suggests the leader as the representative of the people and their interest.

Sadly, it's been redesigned into a sphere of acquisition of power and resources, wedged against the people. Politics has provided the platform for the actualisation of this reality. So if I were to arrest any issue first, and maybe ten times more again in my country, with no doubt it would be the political landscape—till maybe it gets better.

I was having some thoughts today, and it amazed me how amidst the current state of wide security unrest, some of the high flying news are about the next electoral season. Hardly you could read a news now without finding one of such slipped in among them. I wasn't much interested in the leadership and political sector of my country; of course we learnt it was a "dirty game" and I don't like dirt so I stayed far away even. Not later on in life that I developed a healthy interest in the political world of my country, at least for a patriotic citizen.

Politics isn't really a "dirty game", the players here have made it dirty, despicable and reprehensible; constantly hitting up the polity with their selfish acts and decisions. I could go on and on, pouring out inexhaustible amount of words into this matter, and yet will have more to say. This is not categorically stating that all the problem of my country is the political sphere—I'm not one that heavily pours all blame on the leaders with my arms tied—however, a right standing there will address many other issues.

Leadership is key, and transformational leadership is what is needed to build a great nation. Yes, the burden lies heavily in that sector, but it's unfortunate that there is little of anything transformational about that here—a few there are though. So, let the political sector go through a rehab, and after that my country could get better.
