Beyond Just A Shelter

Shelter has turned out one of the most sought things in our world today. I can tell of how much it took me to find and secure the current house I stay in. This only affirms the knowledge passed to us that there are three basic essentials of life—food, shelter and clothing. That knowledge, at least from a socioeconomic perspective or so. And so, the struggles has been for these three basic necessities. All others fall in place, or somehow, in some way they contribute to these three.

With time came development, and through the course of this development came several ages—agricultural, industrial, technological. In an age like this, the desire to provide for these three necessities isn't as that of some ages back. When in the stone age, it was all about having something to wear, to eat and somewhere to sleep, sophistication has come in today, changing the normal order of things. Now it's not about just having these things, but the desire of everyone is to have them in quality, style and elegance.

Shelter isn't about just shelter now, it's about obtaining a house that suits with the current age and trend, which tends to make for a better life. So, we've been caught watching movies and wishing that some sort of house portrayed was ours. Or maybe passing by a place—big cities especially—on a journey and viewing the beautiful houses just leaves us wondering if we could have one of those as ours. Funny, we end up claiming them even. Scrolling online, on the media, we also get captivated by some of these attractive houses. My narrative isn't far from these all.

Hoping to build my own house one day, the idea of my dream house was enchanting. I've thought and imagined it some days of my life. Bring a graduate of architecture, my dream house is only a land and building materials short from me. With the ability, knowledge and skill to design my house to my taste, I think the above mentioned are the bumps in my way. I've dreamt of several houses and imagined how mine will finally look like. With the change and constant development in the construction industry, I've come to settle for the fact that when the resources fall in place, the dream house will come alive.

Nevertheless, a peak into the kind of house I'll love to own encompasses a good land in a quiet or serene area. Not void of people or so, just not lousy. The house will be a duplex at least. A modern duplex style with beautiful parapet walls and nice extrusions. Security will be highly factored in the design and building style. Colours not too loud or too dull will be employed.

The exterior will comprise of a parking lot for a number of cars. Nice and beautiful plantations of some trees and flowers will be factored, making for an appealing environment. The landscape will be less hard and more soft. Behind will feature a pool and some gaming areas like table tennis or so, also a resting place and a garden. The interior will be nothing less of nice sophisticated furnitures, smart devices and electronics, a well arranged and planted cabinets in the kitchen, spacious rooms with built in wardrobes and all ensuite bedrooms. And yeah, note less than three bedrooms. Well well, my dreams and imaginations. They are certainly coming to pass though.
