A Shift in Perspective
"Life will always present unpredictable situations and circumstances." I guess that wasn't figured out some years ago.
Our perspectives and views on life may vary in divergent ways. Some of such perspectives were incubated and hatched in our minds as a result of the environment we grew up in and the people around. Directly or indirectly, there's an impact of such narratives in our subconscious. This such that it remains like it remains stuck like a gum that cannot be rubbed off. Of course, tenderness and vulnerability/susceptibility was a factor to such realities. The bottom line however, they remain an implanted narrative to our perspectives in life, and even the happenings.
While writing this, a book came to my mind. It's one I certainly affirm one must have heard of if not read at least; "Rich Dad, Poor Dad". It highlights on a financial basis the perspectives of two dads. Abruptly, the result was evident by the fruit of such views or perspectives on the writer who shares on it, not withholding the lessons from the two divergent view points.
True it is that these views about life we might tend to harbour or have harboured are highly results of what we received—consciously or unconsciously—as lessons for life or ideals to run with in life. It will still be paramount to note that some perspectives we might tend to hold about life are nothing less but results of our own full efforts. Here, it's a matter of total conscious efforts. Say by observation and analysis about some situations in life, one can proffer themself a "law", "ideology" or "standard" which then sets a perception with regards to that matter. In such a way, a perspective is brought to life and lingers with its yielding influence on the person.
The perspectives we hold about life can be a function of our self efforts or external imposed actions or efforts, consciously or unconsciously on us. This has been in no way an effort to set a perspective on implanted or built up perspectives as wrong and negative, no. Perspectives in whatsoever case can be positive, right and something to hold on to life.
My perspective on life has altered in different ways, from minor to major changes. Some as built up narratives whole others as implanted ones from childhood. One of such jas is that fact that life will not always give you a tree so long as you plant a seed. The seed can be well planted yet, it won't yield—maybe not at the time you expected it. This is not an advocacy for pessimism, it's just stating things as seen to be. Trust me, I'm a well optimistic person but a reality like this has dawned on me to make me realise that some efforts might not yield, or yield on time. So while holding on to optimism, it's necessary to hold this as well so as not to be caught in disbelief.
The binding point is that, there are lot of "unpredictables" with life and no matter how you set your mind on the positive, there's a possibility that you won't always get the fruit you hope for. I affirm again about being optimistic, yes. I'm one who dwells in such a nature and character. However, getting to know that some things might not go the way planned, it will be a huge ease and relief when such happen. And what if all always happen well? Then be appreciative for all things working out good for you. Such, I've come to settle with.
This my entry for the Hive Naija weekly prompt, week 87.
