DEI ≠ Qualified OR Unqualified

Posting this here because I don't like replying to things on facebook...though I occasionally open it up to look at my feed...and usually regret it.

I would think the answer to this would be obvious but apparently some people still need an explanation. Opposing DEI isn't about opposing women or minorities as pilots or in any other job. It also isn't about hiring unqualified applicants. However, there is a concern about hiring LESS qualified applicants.

Using the pilot example, as a passenger, I hope that the airline I am flying with is hiring the most qualified applicants. Yes, all pilots have to meet certain minimum requirements. However, it is still preferable to have the pilots with the most experience and best records. The concern with DEI is that an applicant is being hired because the are adding diversity but in doing so a better qualified pilot is being passed over. I shouldn't have to point out why this is bad.

This does not mean that women and minorities can't be as good as anyone else. I'm just saying sex and race shouldn't be a consideration at all when hiring a pilot. You should hire a pilot for their qualifications, experience, AND record. Not based on what sex or race they are or whether or not they add "diversity".

A pilot shouldn't be passed over because of their race/sex/etc. but they shouldn't be hired for it either. It shouldn't be a consideration at all. Promoters of DEI seem to think that everybody that meets the minimum requirements for a job are equally qualified. This makes no sense.
