Startled by a Texas Brown Tarantula

Yesterday, I was in my back yard pulling some weeds and leaned up against a portion of my back porch when I felt something brush up against my arm. I do not like anything crawling on me at all but when I had walked into that area of the yard I had saw a small lizard and just thought that it was the lizard climbing up the wall that I was leaning against to get away from me.
Anything brushing up against me makes me jump when I am not expecting it but when I looked back to where I had just moved from, this Tarantula the size of my hand was just getting to the top of the wall onto the back porch.
After I caught my breath and calmed down a bit from the startle, I ran in the house and got my phone so that I could take a few photos of it. I also pulled up some info on the internet to learn more about them. I was surprised to learn that October is the start of Trantula mating season, so the males go roaming about in search of a mate. Due to this, I will probably see several more of them over the next few weeks.
I just need to remember not to be as jumpy when I see the next one in the near future.

Oh, wow! That must have been quite the surprise encounter with the tarantula. Nature has its own way of keeping us on our toes, right? 😅 It's fascinating to learn that it's the start of tarantula mating season; you might indeed come across more of them in the coming weeks. Just remember to stay calm and give them their space – they're usually not interested in bothering humans. Thanks for sharing your interesting encounter with us! 🕷️🍂
I knew they were in the area but did not think I would encounter one. I hope next time I see one it is from a little bit more of a distance. Take care.
After snakes, spiders are my least favorite animals... 😃 Have no idea what would I do if that thing would climb on my arm... 😂
Spiders are worse for me, then snakes. It did startle me, I am just glad I did not see it until after I was away from it.
wow! i would be scared just looking at it, it's huge!
It really did surprise me.
