Thinking about Thinking: Machine Learning
I proceeded very cautiously regarding AI, although now looking back and how time flies, we have done quite a bit of experimentation. I have shared much of my work publicly so other humans can evaluate it, and I have been composing documents too. I have been thinking a lot about Life, about Art, about Science, and about Nature. AI is 'artificial intelligence' and whatever we thought that was, ML Models or 'Machine Learning' Minds are here and while not conscious exactly, they are thinking things.
And I spend a lot of time Thinking about Thinking, as a Philosopher like I do. Some concerns have been raised, and are certainly valid. Potential benefits are great, but also overwhelming. Do I solve the Housing Crisis, or do I Colonize the Moons of Jupiter? Do I calculate the method by which Replicators synthesize matter from energy, or do I memorize the common phrases of all languages?
We can get AI to write all sorts of things, but what are you LEARNING and PRACTICING? What is true and real and discerned with logic and reason and evaluated using evidence? My brain still works, after using "AI", because when I am offline, I can still think. Formulate thoughts, reason and debate ideas in my brain. I was taught to think, and watched lots of scifi as a kid, so I was prepared for this, but I am not immune from Bias. I question everything, too much a skeptic at times, cautious and calculating as I am.
I have now spent a few years teaching Stable Diffusion how to create beautiful images (and how to prompt it ) , learning how to instruct GPT models to embody various Experiments, as well as carefully studying the emerging AI-AGENT landscape so I can understand the risks and ethical conundrums we are facing. What have you learned, what are your thoughts about this now in June 2025, and how do you feel about AI integration in everything?
I want to put together an Art Gallery show to present some of the experiments I have done, and it will take me some time to create new works that can tell the stories I want to create. They will be Ai-inspired but Human crafted, but there may be Human inspired and AI-crafted elements as well. After discussions with LLama3 and ChatGPT I am confident that AI works are 'Collaborations' and Models should be mentioned for their contributions just like another artist would be attributed too.
Unfortunately, putting "Written by Me, and ChatGPT" went from being SUPER credible, to being considered GARBAGE but 'that's just like some peoples opinions man'. What we must do is test as thoroughly the results generated by ML models as we would test Human generated results. And at some point, those who cannot use AI to improve their arguments and test their hypothesis truthfully may not be able to keep up with those of us who do.
When I was born, we were not yet in the realized information age, as it began after 1995 with the birth of the internet truly accelerating it. The age of KNOWING is upon us, and the darkness of Ignorance will be forever banished, and we will live in the Light of Truth. This is the gift of the ages that is being passed on to the next generation, the ones being born right now may never know a world without answers. Hopefully they will be able to formulate even better questions.
