If asked about my best teacher.
I fondly thought of being asked a question who my best teacher was. It really stumbled on me that I don’t have one. Now it’s not that I haven’t met any good teacher but I didn’t consciously pick any one.
My mind finally settled on one, Mrs Yetunde.
Mrs Yetunde and I have a bit of a history. She is the only teacher that had the opportunity to be my class teacher twice. The first was nursery 2 and primary 2.
A bright boy I was, and obviously the teacher will take notice and further an interest in me. I was suppose to be the poster boy of the class but we had this unusual new boy who became the Alpha of the class. Better built and way older than I was.
He became the class captain and I become the other kid paired with a dull girl for me to teach and share my precious textbooks with, Since her parents weren’t interested in her education to buy her textbooks.
Being smart doesn’t extempt me from being a victim of noise maker since we all know that’s the only power a class captain has.
I had to respect myself, I never has a reason for my name to be on the silly list. It will pain me deeply for my class rival with just a pen and paper make my best teacher to give me the stroke of cane just because I had the guts to speak up!
Nursery 2 went out like the flames that steam off a fire and so was primary 1.
Primary 2 came fast enough and I was made the class captain. Mrs Yetunde was happy we reunited and had earlier told my parents that she would be my class teacher once again.
Being the closest pupil to the class teacher comes with a lot of responsibility and benefits. Before long, you will realise the benefits are in some way wrapped up responsibility.
During break time, my favourite teacher will send me on an errand to her flat or pick something she forgot earlier. It was an errand I enjoyed because it shows how highly the teacher rates you to be smarter than the rest of your classmates.
One of my favourite moments was when the teacher called me out to read off hand, the 5 multiplication table and the whole class repeated after me since I was the only student who could.
Mrs Yetunde will often hand over the whole class to my care towards the closing period. For 30/45 minutes, I will have to man the class and keep laws and orders. Why she does this is because she wants to go with the free transport of the student bus conveying students who paid for the service since she is a staff member, it’s free.
She gives me her cane and tells the whole class to obey me and asks me to write the names of noise makers then makes me hold her bag, while she tries to jump off the wooden window behind her desk.
It’s tough controlling a class of such kids, I mean the first generation of gen Z as of 2008. A lot of spoiled brats, but I did and never did the school management ever notice the movement of our teacher.
I remembered a girl who told her brother that she stopped liking me because I do cane girls a lot, who will tell her, I will pick making my favourite teacher proud over her likeness??
What made me love her is how she treated me and the closeness that happened between us.
