Midnight letters prompt 1 ; Jams for the midnight
Most times, during the midnight when the night is sikent, the world is asleep,i find my solace in listening to highlife musics.one of them which i love listening most is the highlife music by chief Stephen osita osadebe "Onuigbo” which is a tribute to the coal miners at enugu whom were massacred.
Story behind the song
In November 1949, 21 coal miners was brutally killed in enugu by the British police as a result of a peaceful protest of low salary paid.
Chief Osadebe’s uses the song "onuigbo" which uses as a tribute to their death."Onuigbo" is an iconic who happens to be among the 21 miners in enugu. He happens to live in Onitsha whom have two little kids left them behind and went to enugu to find greener pastures, just to be massacred with the rest 20 coal miners.
Onuigbo was used a highlife music to show the colonial injustice, oppression of the common man and calls peace for all nigerians.
Ai generated
Through the music he used it to show remembrance of colonial injustice, their bravery and
A line in the music says "igwu coal enugu noo bu zi onwu" - coal mining in enugu is now dangerous which shows solidarity with the oppressed.
Today,we have a popular statue in iva valley, enugu.A great rememberance of the great sacrifices made by the workers.
