Use your brain
How many people have a brain but don't use it? I know you are wondering, how do they even get to exist without the brain in the first place. Maybe it is just part of the human body and nothing much. We most times fail to use our brains to its full potential. Yes I know, brain work is the most stressful work and that's why we TRY to avoid it. The fact is, if you can just get it right it will always end up rewarding.
How often do I sit down doing some research and calculations and I finally just have to take a break. The human brain is recorded to take up to 20% of the entire human energy. Imagine how small it is and having such draining Power. Ok, we will be swerving into this brainwork from the financial markets to an offline daily businessing.
The world of business can be very tricky. How do you work with people and deliver the best at an affordable price? Being an entrepreneur requires an in-depth skill in delivering at both ends; external and internal customers. It has been one of those brain work I have to master so I can be able to pull in better contracts.
My business model is working with both affiliates and contract staff. The idea is to shift some expenses from the company's revenue. Our economy got one of those big hits that you will have to be smart enough to sustain business.

Bringing in paid staff is currently difficult to maintain, what happens in the absence of work flow? They will be expecting their pay in 30 days. I can't afford to be a bad boss. I mean, we know how demanding the economy is, why should I lock someone down for such number of days and fail to pay in time.
Another thing to consider is a good pay, I don't know for others but I feel anyone who is a standby staff deserves more. Our currency has really devalued; there were times N25K to N30K seemed a good salary. Calculate that with the current economy and you are talking of what to spend just on food within a week. This was why I had to lay off and restrategize. I prefer most of my business activities to be on-demand nowadays. When there is work, I will contact those available to come in, work and get their instant pay. I guess this is good business, they still have their life to live.
They can in the process be doing some other things to add up to their living. Anyway, this technique also comes with a disadvantage that you will have to be smart enough to manage. These people are not ‘working for’ but rather ‘working with’. What do I mean here, they can decide to price how it fits them, afterall, they are not your staff and you can't exert any pressure for them to work under your assumed terms. It has been one of those challenges that can cause a deal to flip.
They may feel you have overcharged for a service and are underpaying them. Another thing is the fact that they are independent, they may have a current work at hand and will carelessly throw out an unfair price just to test your desperation. Such a set of clients love working with highest bidders. So how do I fit it? That's where your brain will be put to full test.
For this company to grow, we need expert hands who won't be milking the revenue of the company just to satisfy their pause. I made such calls this morning on how to deliver a quality pair of clothes since I know I am too occupied to do that right NOW, the response I got was not encouraging.

I tried to talk down with him, considering the need to lower the price so I could even at the other end secure this deal. His response was not still corresponding. I had to drop the call and get to another person to compare the prices. I have been here before, in my early days I used to run on an entire loss. I will make the calls, pay transport to and fro, spend time and energy to deliver a service only to the benefit of the worker. I had few sources so I couldn't think wide, you will be pleading with a deal you helped secure.
Not anymore, the second contract worker on the list gave me a very fair price, I couldn't even argue at his price placement. The margin gap from the first was very wide. So I learned, just as I said, he may be having so much work to pull out currently. No one is indispensable; that was the next fact here. I am sure to get my quality service at an affordable price.
To conclude, let me add, as an entrepreneur you should not force anyone to work for or with you. This is one brain work that you will have to master and gain reputation. When your calls come in for a contract service, let your client know he can be very well replaced.
This is not an underestimation, no, it shows you are putting out a favor too. I always define business as a bargain between two legal beggars; it was under my company roof that a stress free opportunity reached you, why then should you rob us of a good favor? I will be updating the list of my contract worker list so I don't get disappointed anytime.
