Security will be dependent on energy

A quick one, it will take enough energy to maintain security in the future. It is going to be a statement like, ‘let the highest bidders of energy win’. Indeed, it takes a stronger man to PIN down the strong.

This means some platforms, firms or ecosystems who cannot cater for top security may gradually fade out. Let's just consider a typical example as what is currently happening with Bitcoin powerhouses. miners are declining as the computations become more and more complex; ‘it is really socking in enough energy’.

Maybe what we are looking at is bigger than what we are assuming. It is one of those conversations I made in my recent article which delved a little into the future of Real world assets. It is a technological shift that will outpace its current assumed figures. As humans or economists or even an investor, one will have to assume something just to stay encouraged.

My recent article centered on the issue of security and how important it is to turn our attention to it as regards where we are heading to. artificial intelligence is coming and when I say ‘it is surface’, it means what we are currently experiencing is more like a test running. A lot will be demanding to keep this technology running very smoothly.

As we speak, how energy demanding is AI? This figure is really staggering, I must say it the tech was of no substantial value, it would have been an industry that has entered bankruptcy by NOW. We are look at around 1200 plus megawatt per hour of electricity just to train modules like GPT-3. Maybe I should further break down to show that this consumption is almost equivalent to roughly 120 to 130 homes in the US annually.

If you have been following up with AI news, you will know that this figure will continue to increase. We are talking of an annual rate of 25 to 35% to meet up with AI needing task. Some sources predict that by 2028, AI energy consumption alone will surpass that of Iceland as of 2021. What do I have to add here? More! I mean, every figure currently assumed may be more than these assumptions.

How big is the energy industry? On the global scale we are talking of roughly 30,000 TWh (Terawatts-hours). China is taking the center stage in its global usage followed by the United States. The global Power is expected to scale by almost 25% and yes, a chunk of this is pushing into the online realms. Talking of the digital space, AI development is still in progress, how about even maintenance?

I have talked about how bad actors will want to exploit this technology and do damage. My main concern here is hacking. From my views, the solution here will be training AI modules that will be able to track down and counter the Vice parties. As I took note from my first paragraph, ALL this will require a high amount of energy and we are talking of a constant one.

Can we from here say that hacking activities may reduce in the near future because the cost of running a lucrative one is higher than pending profits. We are still not clear but at least we have a clue: running high LLMs is not like getting a driver's license. Yes, cost will be a limitation just as it happened to Bitcoin mining.

To conclude, let me add, looking away from that, my concern is how this entire AI thing will help the energy industry explode. I see it as one investment opportunity worth it in the long run. When it comes to security, everyone is always on high alert and ready to spend much just to see that they and what they own remains safe.

So will many AI companies be doing the same just to stay in business. In short, even the government will step up too to make sure the needed balance is created to avoid criticism being exploited.

Are we looking at a future where AI security service even becomes a trillion dollar money generating sector? As I earlier said, we are still unclear about many things. Maybe you thought energy consumption is already high, just wait, the next five to two decades will tell a lot
