Handling forced buys

A friend once told me that the advantage the rich have is that they are not always forced to buys. No matter the price cut and product presentation, it will only take them an effective demand to key in. Handling buy pressure can be a hedge as it helps realize both the quality and true price of a product or service. It not always so for many, you wouldn't want to walk pass a one time buy opportunity. That advert that slashes a $50 product to $30 and it ends in two weeks. It is always a 'now or never' and we in the process alter our savings or budgets. Funny enough, we always go home feeling well satisfied.

business is about tactics, how you can present a product that forces that buy button. I must appreciate entrepreneurs for their selling skills. Nevertheless, staying disciplined as an individual can be a hedge when creating or following up our financial goals. It's one of those things I keep arguing with a friend. His idea is always that they are giving a favorable price yet my own view is always; 'do you really need it?'. You know we have different mentality when it comes to money, some keep it for discount buy opportunities while others are in search of opportunities that grows the entire capital. Trust me, when you have enough, you don't wait for discounts, you'll buy things when you need them; this is effective demand.

Adding to that, it shows money professionalism. If you easily get tossed around in pursuit of discount buys, you'll likely end up a full time spender; why do you think a lot go broke in January? Ask December. Funny but true, I used to have that same mentality that January is always financially dry until I learned the trick. You can't rob numbers, punch the calculator or not, it will balance itself. Many have become very bad at numbers and this is something I am personally working myself to improve. Trust me, numbers hold a lot of secrets only if you'll pay attention to them.

What brought about this article? So it was me working in my office when a marketer came in to advertise a product. Basically when I am not in need of such, what I do is get your contact with a 'I will call back if I happen to be in need'. Actually it's not ALL I call back, depending on what you came to present, someone might already be supplying me such. The story this time around was very different, it wasn't just a marketer, she was my relative who came to present her product urging for that supportive buy. I am always happy when I see people around push themselves to get things done rather than just stay idle. Was her product useful? Of course, yet I didn't need it urgently. I still had one. Adding to the fact it was not for business use, so how do I tell her to come back later which may be up to a week or more.

She was eager to sell and I knew a 'no' would put up a moody face. With many debit transactions already piling my table to meet business needs I just stood there trying to see how to handle the situation. Did I buy it? yes. Did I pay her? When she stretched hands for funds (she was expecting bank notes) I told her she should drop her account number so that I will send her funds later. The money wasn't much anyway yet I was trying to exert financial discipline; I don't keep free money and if you want to force one out, you'll have to join my debut queue. She never understood and although I did it without thinking deeply I came to appreciate the decision. I paid her the next day anyway.

I know the consequences I get when I TRY to force my products or services on a customer. I became a full time victim of unpaid debts till date in my early days of business. I am just hoping she doesn't fall into the hands of such 'assumed customers'. Business anyway is risky yet one needs to make tactical decisions as wrong moves could lead to bankruptcy. So I have taken my personal stance on force buys, you don't get that instant funds; all I am trying to signal you is that you are trying to tear my pause and there is some sort of risk for it. Do make sure you comply to pay on any agreed date to keep your integrity. You wouldn't want to be known as a full time debtor. The advantage here is, it aligns your spending and even adds up a hedge. If I need it in two weeks, will you agree to get paid in two weeks time? If not, my later suggestion is simple: come back in two weeks for both ends of the transaction.

To conclude, let me add, there is a need to show financial discipline when trying to make expenses. Being more careful about unplanned expenses will really showcase your financial skills. Once you break in and alter your long term goals for unplanned purchase, you may end up not meeting your daily, weekly, monthly or yearly goals. Go for what you need, set boundaries and if you feel someone is trying to create a hole in your pause then the best way to fight back is presenting your transaction terms. Wisdom they say is profitable to its possessor.
