CBT Concerns
computer education and computing is taking over every industry. It was something I once discussed with a friend that ALL sectors of the economy are computer dependent.
It can be surprising but even a mortuary attendant needs accurate data of the corpse in his custody. If you were to ask me how fast I would love CBT to take over the nation I would say right away.
It holds a lot for the complete revamping of technological limitations. Consider what Internet exposure will do to students. Y
es, I know the internet is a two sided environment and most newbies are likely to fall prey. There are so many distractions without doubt in this environment. Nevertheless, one can't close his eyes against what is happening.
Artificial intelligence is here and the earlier the adaptation the better. In a global market where the job industry is shrinking first and secondly is seeing a tech replacement, everyone has to be prepared for what is coming.
No job in essence doesn't mean no opportunity. But how can one make the most of this in the absence of awareness. Even in the developed part of our country, many are still not aware of what is even going on.
Compare this and you can already see the limitations we will be talking of in the rurals. Little access to smart phones due to low standard of living. You can add poor or on the surface education into that. Consider too, there is a poor internet connection infrastructure in this remote territory. I mean, there is a lot to talk of and a lot to be done.

Looking away from that, I will be connecting this article with the current proposal that was put to effect by the government. I am talking of computer based WAEC examinations for all secondary schools. The idea is not bad as I earlier put in those early paragraphs. The effect was to start from this year 2025 and transition into 2026.
The fact is, wanting to do something is one thing, having it done is another. There are processes to be followed so that it ends up a success. This was where the house of representatives finally stepped in to demand a CBT extension date. We can't doubt that what is waiting ahead is a massive failure. We are talking of a large number of depressed students here.
It was one of the points the reps board tabled. It can sound awkward but this move if not early addressed can lead to death. We have heard of students commiting suicide before.
Looking expansively, national WAEC CBT examinations will require a lot. Financially, structurally, humanly and otherwise. How many secondary schools have a standard computer center? We are not talking of putting three to ten computers here. In short, some public schools don't even have such privileges. Many just hear of a computer, how then will they interact efficiently with it during examinations.

The reps have requested the government shift CBT examinations till 2030. In the process, the government will look into recruiting massive computer teachers, fix up standard computer labs, and deal with the issue of electricity supply.
It could be the purchase of standard generators or constant national electricity supply. It could also mean adoption of solar for part of the country who could leverage the intensity of heat in their environment.
To conclude, let me add, from here, we can say that the government and the WAEC board in our nation are no way near what they are assuming should take effect soonest. Even computer teachers are limited in schools with a massive number of unemployment still looming. We can see the loopholes already.
I am seeing the job market opening up for computer teachers, software and hardware engineers for running and maintenance of these computer centers that will be put in place in thousands of secondary schools nationwide. So yes, jobs are coming.
Let's just assume the federal government will look intensely into this so that we can transition into the Next phase of national development. As I earlier said, computer literacy to me is very mandatory to shift our stance even in the global economy. We are talking of easy opportunities for newbies even before the transition into the labor market. Early knowledge is a hedge.
