Are you contractable?

source

We will be looking at this topic from two ends. It seems I am having more zeal for becoming a better entrepreneur day after day. There are several unlockings for me to undergo in the process. I just sit and get business inspirations most times. Trust me, most of the knowledge I get from business is not out of reading and reading, I do read no doubt if you want to ask. Alright NOW, let's keep that as a story perhaps for another day.

The work week is on us again, a mindset that has been downloaded to us from our forebears. It is just recently that we are starting to gradually break out of that entanglement. That Monday-Friday mentality is really draining. On another thought, we are even working 24/7 these days, another upgrade to the pressure. This is one reason I keep on pushing to become what I will term 'a free worker'; having enough personal time. But till then, back to work, put this business in the right shape.

Talking of putting business into the right shape, one question to consider is what I titled this content; 'are you contractable?'. What do I mean here? First we need to understand what a contract is and its pending benefits. In a nutshell one can attributes a contract to a substantial work given out to somebody ( a company base on trust to deliver). The second part to consider is that a contract is always a life changer. That one time opportunity that turns a nobody to somebody. I have seen and heard of people whom a single contract changed their entire life.

Having laid this foundation, we come back to ourselves to imagine our chances of getting there. So how can one become contractable? First, appearance matters, secondly, what you do matters. We are going to break down these two in this article so we get a tangible knowledge of it.

From the aspect of appearance, a mentor told me that looking good is good business. This is something that most entrepreneurs undermine which is an added advantage to those who consider it. For instance, you were to go and summit a proposal to a firm about what you do and why you should be trusted with this contract and you decided to go there dressed anyhow. I am not saying you should become the best dresser, no, yet you need to hit the minimum standard. It is much better if you even beat it. Do you know your appearance can influence a client?

Your manner of approach, tactics of speech, calmness and fluentness add to this. You don't quake as an entrepreneur, there is a need to let your clients know you are not begging for this contract or on a more professional say; 'both parties are beggars'. Have you ever heard my definition of business? 'Business is a bargain between two legal beggars, one being the entrepreneur having the goods or services and willing to exchange with another; the customer for an acceptable means of payments or assets involved"--- dani-EL. When you get this right, you will know how important you are to the chain.

The second part is what you do? What you do determines how easy you can grow. Many of us are involved in activities that are not contractable or easily contractable if I should say. What am I saying here? Let's look for instance, a local barber and brander (someone into cloth branding). Which of them is open for more opportunities? Which of them is easily contractable? The barber depends on barbing an individual's hair at a time. What good contract can come in here?

To be more sincere, it becomes very difficult to scale in such waters. I am not underestimating anyone's job here, just setting an example. Ok, let's say you are opportuned to be barbing someone who is reputable. It doesn't still make that much sense in the sense that the pay may not be able to hit you what blows you unless it is just overhyped for reasons.

On the other hand, the person in that branding business is open for contracts at any time. That huge government occasion, burial ceremony, the sent fort service and more. Consider the fact that he could get the contract of supplying an institution (government house, school, churches etc) with branded clothes maybe for a contractable season. This easily explains itself, one must prepare himself to blow. When an opportunity comes, make sure it will definitely count.

To conclude, let me add, there is a need for us to think broadly when venturing into the world of business. Not ALL of us are concerned about entrepreneurship anyway yet if you are, make sure your effort will count in the long run. Many become frustrated over time when they come to realize they are operating on a thin lane. At such a point, my advice is always incorporation.
