Who is PlayStation's Project Q mobile gaming device being made for?

PlayStation gaming on the go... kind of 🤨

If you haven't heard, PlayStation is finally releasing a new mobile console. Or at least that's what I was hoping for. Instead, we are getting a PS5 peripheral device that allows the best PlayStation Remote Play experience imaginable. The only thing is, not everyone is down with Remote Play.

This new device will have a DualSense controller split in half with a big 1080p screen in the middle connecting the two sides of the controller. The main sell here is that all of the normal DualSense features will still be available, unlike other Remote Play experiences such as PlayStation Backbone, which I own and reviewed almost a year ago. You also won't have to worry about your phone battery dying since this will be a standalone device. The only thing is, the Steam Deck can do that as well. As I said, the main thing is that DualSense support will be just like it is on your PS5 console.

One huge issue people have with this is that it is a streaming device only and you don't be able to download your games to it. Not only that, but you must own a PS5 to be able to use Remote Play. This isn't cloud streaming, it's Remote Play. I can confirm that it's usable software, but it is nowhere near as good of an experience as actually playing games on your PS5. There is some input lag and it's hard not to notice in online shooter titles.

I'm confused as hell why this device is what it is. We've yet to get a full unveiling of the name, for now, it is still Project Q. I'm willing to bet that there are also some other features that we are yet to know about. I'm curious what sort of operating device this will have. If they go the Android route, then a lot more will be possible in terms of hacking the thing yourself. I have a feeling it'll be some sort of Linux-based OS that is not easily customizable.

Here is to hoping that they surprise us and reveal that you'll be able to install games on the device and play without an internet connection. Doubtful, but you never know. PlayStation has been winning this next-gen console war and I'd hate to see their success tarnished by releasing a mobile gaming peripheral for the PS5 that nobody buys.

We shall see how it all goes soon, there will be more info about Project Q released in the coming months. For now, I'm curious how everyone else is feeling about Project Q. Are you as confused by it as I am?

Thanks for watching and be sure to drop any comments you may have down below, I will get back to everyone.

Here is the trailer for Project Q:

I have not heard about that before but it's really interesting.

Mm.. I am too far beyond the new technology. However, I think I wouldn't like to play video games on such a small screen.

To me, it doesn't make a lick of sense because of Sony already allowing users to stream their games to a cellphone and controller. That and you have to live with excellent internet to stream and that's still out of the realm of possibility for many many users.

It's crazy they thought this needed to exist. Remote Play is useable if you have a solid internet connection, but it's nowhere near as good as playing on the console usually. This thing would be useless when I want to use it most, the moments without an internet connection.

You're right. It's definitely for people who don't need it. Having to use wifi at all times doesn't make it as remote as it should have been.

I don't see average players choosing this when compared to their own device.

But let's hope they come up with a surprise package, one that no PS5 user can resist.

I don't see why PlayStation would spend a bunch of money developing a product that very few people need. Seems like a horrible business decision to me.

I've never seen this kind of game pad before
So you mean that the pad is alongside the screen
Is that it?

No it does not. It can only stream your PS5 using WiFi. LAME!

Sony doesn't play around, I hope it doesn't get abandoned like the PSVITA, because it had incredible potential for the time. Amazing content man 👊🏾

I love how PlayStation has gone at this next-gen "war", but I'm not fully with Project Q yet. Unless it's way cheaper than I'm expecting or can do more than they have revealed so far, it will not be popular. I hope I"m wrong.

A new portable console from sony would be amazing. 😊👍❤
Best design ever, whatever the purpose of it is, that is the Sony's handheld console ever...face-blue-wide-eyes🤫🙄

I think it is so amazing, I have the Nintendo Switch and at the beginning I didn't expect to enjoy too much the portable mode. But with the time I started to use it more and more, besides I still prefer the TV mode.

The main question is, will you be able to enjoy the same power of the PS5 in this device?

Let me explain...
Imagine you could only play games on your switch when you had a wifi connection. Project Q streams your PS5 remotely. Your PS5 awakens from rest mode and runs your game, then your device will stream it with PS Remote Play. There is some latency aka lag occasionally, even with a rock-solid connection. It's not perfect, but works.

Would you still be willing to pay say $300 for something like Project Q?

Don't get me wrong, I think it looks so cool and I know it will feel awesome to have in your hands. It just doesn't seem very useable for me as is. Hopefully, both Project Q and PS Remote Play improve.

Oh I understand, in that case my answer is no, I would spend that money for an independent console like the PSP. I think it’s the same that Nintendo try with the Wii U.

I haven't been into mobile gaming, even on my phone, ever since the 3DS which I purchased only because the Switch was too expensive and I was already at Game Stop so I felt compelled to buy something. Years and years ago I splurged on a PSP and then proceeded to barely even use it until it was stolen from my house and well, while I did feel violated I wasn't even that upset after a little while.

As much as I love Playstation, I certainly will not get one of these.

I was an Xbox kid back in the day and therefore totally missed out on the PSP and PS Vita. My brother had both, but I never even played either much at all really. I'd totally buy a mobile PlayStation console if they came out with one, but sadly I do not consider Project Q to be what I would like to have from Sony.

I wouldn't say you really missed out on very much other than wasting money on something that was on a very small screen.
