A vampiric Souls-like with an anime skin 🧛🏻‍♂️⚔️

Talk about a big surprise. I was recently trying to find a Souls-like game to enjoy. I didn't want one that instantly crushed me like Nioh and Nioh 2, which are both in my library. I quickly became annoyed with Demon's Souls lack of checkpoints. I've been struggling to get deeply invested in Elden Ring. Bloodborne is a little too old and also brutally punishing. The only game left in my library that I hadn't already played is Code Vein. I was unsure about it since it has a heavy emphasis on anime, but it is still a Souls-like. I guess it was a free PS Plus game from a long time ago that I for some reason ignored. No better time than now to finally play it.

Code Vein, released in 2019, is an action role-playing game developed and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. Set in a post-apocalyptic world, the game blends elements of traditional dark fantasy with an anime aesthetic. Players take on the role of a Revenant, a vampiric being with supernatural powers, navigating through a desolate land known as the Vein. The narrative revolves around uncovering the mysteries of the world, Revenant society, and the source of the Blood Beads, a crucial resource for the Revenants.

One of the distinctive features of Code Vein is its intricate character creation system, allowing players to customize the appearance and abilities of their Revenant. The game incorporates a companion system, where players can choose a partner to accompany them on their journey. These AI-controlled partners, known as Companions, assist in battles, offering strategic advantages based on their unique abilities and playstyles. You can also play the entire game in co-op with a friend if you prefer that over the AI companion.

Combat in Code Vein is fast-paced and revolves around a unique Blood Code system. Players can switch between different Blood Codes, each with its own set of skills, allowing for a versatile combat experience. Blood Codes are this game's class-based system that influences the character's stats and playstyle. With its captivating narrative, deep character customization, and challenging combat mechanics, Code Vein caters to fans of action RPGs who appreciate a rich and immersive gaming experience.

I'm not going to lie, this game shocked me with how fun it is. It was exactly what I was looking for. It's challenging, but not so hard that I fail to progress for hours upon end. I love the fact that the story revolves around vampires. The gameplay itself is also just super satisfying. I don't suck at it and it makes me feel like I don't suck at Souls-like games. I've managed to dumb over 20 hours into the game already.

Now let's jump into my first impressions of Code Vein. I promise I've gotten much better at the game since my first half-hour or so with it.

Thanks for watching and be sure to drop any comments you may have down below, I will get back to everyone.

I remember a friend being hyped to play this game when it was shown- good to hear that the game was truly worth it at the end of the day.

Seems like a miracle for you to go through that many games and finally land in one that fit like a glove to play (kinda funny...but also pretty lucky too).

I had never even heard of this game until a month ago. I was quite surprised that it is as good as it is. I have finally been able t start getting into Souls-like games and not suck at them. This one fits into that category very nicely.

I don't know if this game has older versions? Or am I wrong? It looks very good, a very fluid RPG. Thanks for share.
