Gods Unchained - Chaos Constructed game mode is here, more game modes reveled as well
Last evening was the latest Council of Mortals meeting. Something that is streamed live both on twitch and on the Gods Unchained discord server. And it is a good way to get a feel for what they and the council think is important. As well as get news in a more direct way. And last evening's meeting did have some great extra information about the game modes that are planned. And if you want to know what was said, then my friend all you have to do is read on.
Chaos Constructed is here, the first alternative game mode
With the maintenance patch, yesterday, was also the new game mode Chaos Constructed. This means that we still have to wait for the previously mentioned Sealed game mode. But what exactly is Chaos Constructed you might ask? It is a game mode where you now have access to all cards no matter what domain they are associated with, and no matter what domain you chose to play as.

You can now use any card with any god
Personally, I do not see this game mode as one I will play to any extent. I fear it will simply enable already powerful decks to dominate now that they can sure up any weakness they might have. As an example control decks with healing and face damage on top of all the board clear you can want. Or an aggro deck with every good aggro creature in the same deck. Do not sound like fun times. But hopefully, I am wrong and we might be able to see some new decks that do some interesting things instead.
New deck builder
With the new game mode, Chaos Constructed also came the new deck builder. And it will probably take a few times to get used to it, as will most new things. But so far I have to say it is looking really good and promising. And so much easier to find things you are looking for. This looks to be a great addition to the game.
What was said about game modes in general
During the Council of Mortals meeting they dropped a few hints about game modes in general I thought I would cover before we take a look at the specific modes they mentioned. They mentioned that what they are working on game-mode tooling. And unless I am completely mistaking it is an addition to the game that lets them set up new game modes with ease. As well as swapping them in and out. And if this is correct it will be a great benefit for the game going forward. And a much better use of the developer's time rather than simply making a stand-alone game mode. And who knows maybe we would be able to make our own game mode in the future if this goes well.
They also mentioned they were working on reward mechanics for Sealed Mode. So hopefully that means that the game modes in the future will have some sort of reward system tied to them. Once it gets tested and finalized. As it currently is the Chaos Constructed game mode only gives you experience points and flux. They however did not mention anything of what this could be. But from what they said I think it is a separate reward system from the current one we have in ranked. That means it could be $GODS, Packs, cosmetics, or a combination of those things that could become up for grabs.
They also mentioned that currently, they have 12 game modes in total that they are working on. Including Chaos Constructed. But with the game mode tooling it presumably would be a fairly easy process to add more down the line. But let's take a look at the game mode they mentioned or that we already know about.
Rush
This is a game mode that sounds like it is made for aggro players. Going by the name alone. But what it is is a game mode that lets you draw 1 extra card each turn. For a total of 2 cards. And it also gives you 1 extra mana lock each turn. Now unlocking a total of 2 mana locks each turn. This means that sure you can play more cards, but you also have to play more cards or your hand will fill up fast. But you will also run out of cards that much faster.

Broccoli will get there first
Constructing decks that allow you to either generate more cards or put cards back therefore I think will be key to succeeding in this game mode. I think The Curious Wisp will be a very good card to have here. And you might even get away with using two of them. The deception power Loot I think also can be very useful, as it in a similar way allows you to skirt the mana burn.
1 mana meta
This is exactly as it sounds. You are only allowed cards that cost 1 mana. With that very limited power curve, cards that can ramp will be very powerful thanks to that. And again I see The Curious Wisp being a very good card here. But Blood Oath Binder and Aging Veteran can also be fairly good. But what I think will be key to this game mode is also card generation. Cards that can generate new cards for you, cards that therefore can have a higher mana cost than 1. That is where I think the key to success in this game mode will lie.
Wizard mode
This will put a restriction on the player by eliminating creatures from the game. Only allowing spells and relics in the decks. With that, I would guess that the dominant gods will be War and Magic, but I think Deception can be a dark horse. This game mode I do think will be an interesting one that will put deck creation to the test.

Direct Challange mode
They also mentioned this as a way to challenge your friends. And that was more or less all that was said about it. I assume this means that they will rework the challenge mode that is already in the game. In a separate question in the meeting, they also talked about making it easier to have tournaments. And this can be what this mode will be used for.

Rush sounds like a blast. GU definitely needs faster game modes - especially as they go for mobile. Different game modes can also breathe life into previously-unplayable cards, so I'm hoping for that, too!
I agree with you there, not many have the will to play 30 min a game on their phone. And I also hope that more cards will be usable with these modes. Fingers crossed the modes will have some sort of interesting reward to them as well. Or I fear not many will play them.
Great overview. I think Rush sounds very interesting and also the possibility to do tournaments if it is implemented. I love the new deckbuilder, this was a very much needed improvement to the game.
Yes, I think Rush can be interesting as well. But also the 1 Mama Meta.
I tried to play Chaos Mode right after the update and I must admit that I struggle to build a deck that suits my style.
