The 90’s Music - The True Taste of Music
Am I the only one who noticed how fierce the week 29 Vibes Web3 music competition was? I bet I’m not the only one. I saw beautiful and amazing talents. I enjoyed listening to most of the performances mostly because of the theme for that week.
Maybe because we have lots of mature minds here and so there was a kind of beautiful resonance to the theme for that week - 90’s Music.
The 90’s music is something that I really enjoyed.
When I listen to artists like Bob Marley, Whitney Houston, Backstreet Boys, Westlife, Celine Dion, Don Moen, and Ron Kenoly, to mention but a few, I'm taken back to when Music was an expression of feelings, thoughts, and even lifestyle.
Over the years, I’ve discovered that contemporary songs that thrive over time, are songs that drew inspiration from the early music. This is because older music often has a timeless quality that transcends generations.
There is a whole different feeling when you listen to medieval songs. You are taken back in time and you feel like those days should come back. Most of the time, I get so emotional.
Sometimes I listen to old music and I’m taken back to when I used to sit with my grandad and we vibe to those songs. He mostly listened to Nigerian singers - Osadebe, Shina Peters, Victor Uwaifo - and Bob Marley at other times.
Most of the time, he did well to explain the meaning of the songs and the message the singer was trying to pass across.
I don’t know, maybe because I didn’t listen to virtually every performance that’s why I didn’t get to see anyone do a reggae song or a song by Bob Marley. I would have been so enthralled and excited. Reggae music, in particular, has a way of evoking strong emotions and connections.
Personally, the lyrics of the 90’s song make more meaning than some of the contemporary music. You hear a song and you resonate with the singer and his message. In recent times, it’s all about how danceable the beats are. Sometimes I marvel at how people find these “beats songs” enjoyable and I wish those ancient times could be brought back.
The art of storytelling through music seems to be lost in today’s world or maybe I'm just not a real “Gen-Z”.
Music has the power to evoke emotions, spark memories, and bring people together, and maybe if some of our contemporary musicians would understand what music is truly all about, we would stand a chance at maintaining and retaining the true taste of Music.
The 90’s music theme reminded us of the importance of meaningful lyrics and melodies and took us back to our roots, bringing back what we knew as Music.
I really want to thank our lovely judges @lordbutterfly @verbal-d and @silentscreamer for doing well to bring a theme that reminded us of the true essence of music. Their efforts brought out the best in the competitors, and it was amazing to see.

I really enjoyed the 90's contest as well. It's actually been a while since I listened to those songs, but this contest brought back all those memories that seemed forgotten.
I know right?! I really got to listen to songs that actually sounded like Music again.
