Not Always a SetBack But a Lesson

You know, when the Holy Bible said: There is time for everything under the sun, I think it knew what it was saying.
Here in Nigeria, when things don’t go as planned we use the slogan: “everyday no be Christmas” (Good things don’t happen every day)
And so, what that tells me is that, there are times when things would go so well and you would wonder if your life has ended.

I think I really understood this phrase in my early years.
I grew up with a silver spoon; so to speak.
Daddy really made sure to give us the best life. We attended the best schools. And it really felt good.
But then one day, we discovered that mum no longer gave us each a piece of meat to eat. I wondered why I had to share a piece of meat with my siblings. It was frustrating and sometimes we fought over it.
The next thing that happened was a change of schools. Now if it were a lower-grade school, I would not have bothered.

I was shocked to my bones when my mom went to enroll us in a public school.
My world shattered and I cried for weeks.
I just couldn’t cope. The students were so rough and misbehaved.
I almost hated my parents but as I grew older I understood that that was a trying period for them.
Things got better and my siblings moved to a better school.

Growing up, I had to stay on my own on campus and honestly, I got to experience what we called a drought season.
I had a roommate then. I remember one period when there was so much food at home that we wondered who would eat it.
We just had more than enough to eat and throw away. Life was so good.
Trust me, that season didn’t last forever. A time came when we could not afford to buy bread. In fact, we grew so lean that my mom had to pity us and send foodstuffs.

Those seasons have taught me that there are seasons of plenty and there are seasons of drought. I got to understand that it is the actions you take during the season of plenty that affect your season of drought. For those who are familiar with the story of Joseph and the Egyptians. You’ll understand that savings and investments are the only key to surviving the drought season.
I have indeed mastered this principle and of a truth, nothing shakes me anymore.

Something happened recently, so I have this colleague in the office who buys me breakfast and takes me home after work. For some reason, I would call that season a season of plenty. Because I rarely spent money on food and all that. But then recently, we had a fallout and those things he used to give me, I rejected them as I knew what they now meant.

Life didn’t deal so harshly with me because I had something saved up for a time like this. And secondly, I believe that the God who has carried me in times when nothing worked, will still sustain me in times like this.

So this is a form of encouragement to anyone facing any hard time. Just know for a surety that it is not the end of the road, you’ll definitely come out of it because no situation lasts forever.

Changing school is always challenging! Especially in places that public schools aren't so good!

It was really annoying but I'm thankful we scaled through.

Yes, no situation lasts forever. It's good to see how you reference from the scriptures and align them to your discourse. Certainly, there are times of privilege and plenty, and there are those of drought and emptiness. Investment and judicious use of the season and time of plenty will be wise.
