Week 40 Music cover competition review
I listened to this cover of Perfect Goodbye not knowing what to expect. From the first line, it caught my attention. The lyrics spoke of love, connection, and how moments can be both short and beautiful. The way it was sung made that meaning clear. Nice music @benriffs
What struck me first was how natural it sounded. Nothing was rushed. Nothing was forced. Each word had space, and that gave the song honesty. A line like “Forty five steps in the same direction, oh, ain’t it strange we’re here connecting?” didn’t feel like just words—it felt personal.
The voice was soft and warm. It didn’t feel like a performance on stage. It felt like someone speaking directly to you. That closeness made it easy to feel the song.
Also, the way it was balanced was intriguing to me. The picture on the front of the book wasn’t an exact replica of the original image, but it also wasn’t that different. It was very much in line with the basic idea of the song which is love, memory and giving up gently.
One of the verses “Good night baby, kiss me now, don’t make me sad” was quite emotional. The artist didn’t wrap these words in extra layers of sound, but simply presented them. This allowed them to become even more powerful.
The video kept things simple as well. No flashy edits or distractions. Just the voice and the lyrics. That made it feel more personal, almost like it was sung only for you.
One line stayed with me: “This shit is perfect, each second worth it.” It sounded real, like every moment mattered. That truth gave the song its strength.
The thing I liked most was the fact that it were a mix of both sadness and thankfulness. Indeed, it is farewell. But at the same time, the giver of the song was acknowledging the love given. The singer was very effective in representing both sides.
The timbre of the voice was quite tender but had a certain power. It was not mandatory that it be strong or heavily influenced by the effects. The truthfulness of the words was what the voice was emphasizing. This made it even more private, like someone sharing their journal entries.
This cover makes me think that music isn’t necessarily complicated. Just a nice voice and truthful lyrics can be even more touching than the rest of the world. That’s what made it great.
Afterwards, I was both relaxed and touched. The track gave me a reminder that love isn’t always about loud things. It’s made up from the small moments the goodnight kisses, the promises after midnight, the desire to never let go. Those are the memories that will remain.
Everyone who will listen to this cover will also agree. This is not just a song. It is a reminder to cherish the time with those we love. And that is the reason why this show is unique.
Thank you @benriffs for creating this great cover for us to listen.
