It is of utmost importance to remember and recall God's grace and mercy, as well as His power. This is nothing less than trustworthy, allowing us to present ourselves before Him even in times of need.

Then Jehoshaphat stood in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the Lord, before the new court. 6 He said, "O Lord, God of our fathers, are you not God in heaven? Do you not rule over all the kingdoms of the nations? Is not power and might in your hand so that none can withstand you? 7 Our God, did you not drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel and give it to the descendants of Abraham, your friend, forever?" 8 And they have dwelt therein, and have built a sanctuary therein for your name, saying, 9 If evil comes upon us, whether the sword of punishment, or pestilence, or famine, we will come before this house, and before you (for your name is in this house), and in our affliction we will cry to you, and you will hear us and save us. 10 Now therefore, here are the children of Ammon and Moab, and the inhabitants of Mount Seir, into whose land you did not want Israel to invade when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned away from them and did not destroy them— 11 behold, they are giving us recompense, coming to drive us out of the inheritance you gave us to possess. 12 O our God, will you not judge them? For there is no power in us against so great a multitude that comes against us; we do not know what to do, yet we turn our eyes to you. 2 Chronicles 20:5-12

The Old Testament can be a great treasure where we can draw great and valuable lessons, especially from the prayers that were recorded. We remember the moment when King Jehoshaphat asked for divine help. This shows us the balance between asking the Lord to suffer his needs and at the same time proclaiming God's greatness. This teaches us that in the same way, our requests must be presented to God with full recognition of His sovereignty and magnificence. Otherwise, the focus of our prayers becomes diverted by pointing only to our needs, or even worse, weakness, failure, or fear.

16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness.

2 Timothy 3:16

Jehoshaphat cried out to God in one of the most difficult times, and at the same time, he also exalted the Lord, acknowledging all He had done for the people of Israel. This shows us that knowing the Word of God is key, as it allows us to understand how God has worked in the lives of others. This way, we have a better understanding of His mighty work and power. We have a great example of praying in a similar way to the Old Testament figures, placing all our trust in the power of God, as in those days and as it is today.

And he prayed, saying: "O Lord, God of our ancestors, you alone are the God in heaven. You are the ruler of all the kingdoms of the earth. You are strong and mighty. No one can stand before you!

2 Chronicles 20:6

I do not know this: we proclaim: "In your hand is power and might, and no one can withstand them." Jehoshaphat was praising and, at the same time, with the same prayer, he was remembering the greatness of God. Today we can take this example for ourselves: when we pray, let us speak and proclaim God's mercy and grace, and at the same time, let us remember his great power and mighty hand, as it has worked in our favor and as it will continue to do so for his glory.

Es de suma importancia traer a memoria y recordar la gracia y la misericordia de Dios así como también su poder, esto no sé nada de confianza para presentarnos delante de él también en momentos de necesidad.

Entonces Josafat se puso en pie en la asamblea de Judá y de Jerusalén, en la casa de Jehová, delante del atrio nuevo; 6 y dijo: Jehová Dios de nuestros padres, ¿no eres tú Dios en los cielos, y tienes dominio sobre todos los reinos de las naciones? ¿No está en tu mano tal fuerza y poder, que no hay quien te resista? 7 Dios nuestro, ¿no echaste tú los moradores de esta tierra delante de tu pueblo Israel, y la diste a la descendencia de Abraham tu amigo para siempre? 8 Y ellos han habitado en ella, y te han edificado en ella santuario a tu nombre, diciendo: 9 Si mal viniere sobre nosotros, o espada de castigo, o pestilencia, o hambre, nos presentaremos delante de esta casa, y delante de ti (porque tu nombre está en esta casa), y a causa de nuestras tribulaciones clamaremos a ti, y tú nos oirás y salvarás. 10 Ahora, pues, he aquí los hijos de Amón y de Moab, y los del monte de Seir, a cuya tierra no quisiste que pasase Israel cuando venía de la tierra de Egipto, sino que se apartase de ellos, y no los destruyese; 11 he aquí ellos nos dan el pago viniendo a arrojarnos de la heredad que tú nos diste en posesión. 12 ¡Oh Dios nuestro! ¿no los juzgarás tú? Porque en nosotros no hay fuerza contra tan grande multitud que viene contra nosotros; no sabemos qué hacer, y a ti volvemos nuestros ojos.

2 Crónicas 20:5-12

El antiguo testamento puede ser un gran tesoro donde podemos extraer grandes y valiosas lecciones sobre todo de las oraciones que quedaron registradas. Recordamos el momento en que el rey Josafat pidió ayuda divina, esto nos muestra el equilibrio entre pedir al señor que sufriera sus necesidades y a la vez proclamar la grandeza de Dios. Esto nos enseña que de la misma manera nuestras peticiones deben ser presentadas a Dios con total reconocimiento de su soberanía y su magnificiencia. De no ser así el enfoque de nuestras oraciones se desvía apuntando solamente nuestras necesidades, debilidad aún peor, el fracaso o el miedo.

16 Toda la Escritura es inspirada por Dios, y útil para enseñar, para redargüir, para corregir, para instruir en justicia,

2 Timoteo 3:16

Josafat presentó clamor a Dios en uno de los momentos más difíciles y en el mismo momento también exaltó al señor reconociendo todo lo que había hecho por el pueblo de Israel. Esto nos demuestra que es clave conocer la palabra de Dios ya que esto nos permite conocer como Dios ha obrado en la vida de otros, de esta manera tenemos un mejor panorama de su obra poderosa y de su poder. Tenemos un gran ejemplo de orar de forma similar como los personajes del antiguo testamento, depositando toda nuestra confianza en el poder de Dios como en aquellos días tal es hoy.

y oró diciendo: «Oh Señor, Dios de nuestros antepasados, solo tú eres el Dios que está en el cielo. Tú eres el gobernante de todos los reinos de la tierra. Tú eres fuerte y poderoso. ¡Nadie puede hacerte frente!

2 Crónicas 20:6

No sé esto: proclamamos: "en tu mano ahí poder y fortaleza y no hay quien pueda resistirse a ellos". Josafat estaba alabando y en el mismo tiempo con la misma oración estaba recordando la grandeza de Dios. Hoy podemos tomar este ejemplo para nosotros, al momento de orar hablemos y proclamemos la misericordia de Dios, su gracia y al mismo momento recordemos su gran poder y su mano poderosa como ha obrado a nuestro favor y como seguirá haciéndolo para su gloria.
