Esperamos pacientemente en Dios. || We wait patiently on God.

Trusting in God, and especially in His timing, is extremely important; it is a wise decision.

Psalm 27:13-14

Today we live in a world where the prevailing culture is one of immediacy, of instantaneousness. Living at this accelerated pace is not always synonymous with something bad, but we must pay attention and be careful, since focusing only on immediate gratification can affect us, as we may lack the patience to wait for God's timing.

4 Then the word of the Lord came to him, saying, "This man shall not be your heir, but your son shall be your heir." 5 And he brought him outside and said to him, "Look now toward the heavens and count the stars, if you are able to number them." And he said to him, "So shall your descendants be."

Genesis 15:4-5

Recall from this previous passage that Abraham had openly expressed his frustration at not having children with Sarah up until that point, but God immediately revealed to him that his wife would have a son, and not only that, she would have countless descendants. For all this, Abraham believed God, but he didn't have the patience to endure the process according to God's promise. He decided to act on his own, somehow helping God or speeding up the process by starting a family by having a child with Sarah's servant.

If we didn't know the end of the story, we might justify Abraham's actions since God had promised him he would have a son, then, as it seemed impossible with Sarah, it would have been quite justified to have that child with her servant. We might fall into believing that this had been God's wise decision, but we know that this is not the case.

Abraham faced the consequences of his actions, resulting from resentment and much jealousy between Hagar and Sarah, for example. And all of this also generated problems both in the short and long term, and we can see this throughout history. Yet, despite all of this, God has been faithful, since after 14 years, Sarah gave birth to the son God had promised: Isaac.

Just as Abraham's experience has been, I'm sure it's no different from situations in our own lives. We tend not to doubt God's promises. But if we falter along the way and believe we must help or act, wanting to justify that God is the one who supports us in certain decisions, this generally happens because we expect immediate results or we want things to be our way, the way we think they should be. But we also desire positive results, the results God promises us. So, for that, we give God guidance in our decisions and hope that He will act even when the timeframe is much longer than we expect.

Hoy vivimos en un mundo donde la cultura que reina es la cultura de lo inmediato, de lo instantáneo, vivir con este ritmo acelerado no siempre es sinónimo de algo malo pero si debemos prestar atención y tener cuidado ya que enfocarnos únicamente en la gratificación inmediata puede afectarnos ya que puede ser que no tengamos paciencia en esperar por los tiempos de Dios.

4 Luego vino a él palabra de Jehová, diciendo: No te heredará este, sino un hijo tuyo será el que te heredará. 5 Y lo llevó fuera, y le dijo: Mira ahora los cielos, y cuenta las estrellas, si las puedes contar. Y le dijo: Así será tu descendencia.

Génesis 15:4-5

Recordemos este pasaje anterior que Abraham había expresado abiertamente su frustración por no tener hijos con Sara hasta ese momento, pero inmediatamente Dios le reveló que su esposa tendría un hijo y no sólo eso, tendría una descendencia innumerables. Para todo esto Abraham le creyó a Dios pero no supo tener la paciencia del proceso conforme a la promesa de Dios, decidió actuar por su cuenta, de alguna manera ayudar a Dios o acelerar el proceso formando una familia teniendo un hijo con la sierva de Sara.

Si no conociéramos el final de la historia podríamos justificar la acción de Abraham ya que Dios le había prometido que tendría un hijo entonces como con Sara parecía imposible bien justificado hubiese sido haber tenido ese hijo con su sierva. Podríamos caer Y creer que ésta había sido la sabia decisión de Dios, pero sabemos que esto no es así.

Abraham se enfrentó a las consecuencias de sus acciones, consecuencia de resentimiento y muchos celos entre Agar y Sara por ejemplo. Y todo esto también generó problemas tanto a corto plazo como a largo plazo, y lo podemos ver a través de la historia, aún así con todo esto Dios ha sido fiel ya que después de 14 años Sara dio a luz ese hijo que Dios había prometido, nació Isaac.

Así como lo ha sucedido Abraham estoy seguro que no es diferente a situaciones de nuestras vidas ya que tendemos a no dudar de las promesas de Dios pero si en el camino flaqueamos y creemos que debemos ayudar o que debemos actuar queriendo justificar que Dios es quien nos apoya en determinadas decisiones, esto generalmente sucede porque esperamos resultados inmediatos o bien deseamos que las cosas sean a nuestra manera, como nosotros creemos que deben ser. Pero también deseamos tener los resultados positivos, los resultados que Dios nos promete, entonces para eso y damos a Dios que guíe nuestras decisiones y esperemos que él actúe aún cuando el plazo sea mucho más de lo que nosotros esperamos.
