We see the example of the Apostle Paul, and just as happens in our lives, in those moments when our strength is exhausted and we can no longer continue, it is often the moment when we finally allow God to act.

For brothers, we do not want you to be uninformed about our affliction that came upon us in Asia, for we were overwhelmed beyond our strength, so that we even despaired of life. 9 But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves but in God who raises the dead, 10 who delivered us, and does deliver us, and in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us from so great a death. 11 You also working together for us by prayer, that thanks may be given by many on our behalf for the gift bestowed on us through many.

2 Corinthians 1:8-11

It's very easy for Christians to often assume that today's problems are very different from those that existed in biblical times. That's why you might wonder what a traveler and preacher from Jesus' time can teach us, what the apostle Paul can teach us about triumphing over adversity if today is a totally different time from his. Although the culture that surrounded the apostle Paul at that time was totally different from ours, the sins and tendencies of our humanity are exactly the same; the temptations and trials are no different from what we experience today. That's why, when the apostle Paul wrote that he was overwhelmed beyond his strength, he was acknowledging his weakness, and this gave credibility to his words through his experience.

For we do not want you to be unaware, brothers, of our affliction that came upon us in Asia, for we were overwhelmed beyond our strength, so that we even despaired of life.

2 Corinthians 1:8

Paul, in a way, tells us that we have lost that hope of preserving life, but he does not lose his trust that God controls all things. Paul had faith that God sustains him. Paul also learned to trust in God during these difficult times, during times of affliction. Let us remember that he was subjected to very difficult and high-pressure situations, impossible situations, but in this way he also learned to trust in God and achieved triumph through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. We begin to understand divine power when we reach the limits of our own strength. Thus, we begin to experience the strength of God; we are propelled forward, not to stop. And for this reason, our faith, through the Word and through the experiences of these situations, is strengthened, trusting God even more in the worst moments.

This power that springs from the very person of God is available to all believers who, in times of weakness, learn to trust fully in God. Let us surrender our lives and our situation, no matter how difficult it may be, to God, and simply wait patiently, with faith that God will fulfill his promise and give us the way out.

Vemos el ejemplo del Apóstol Pablo y al igual que sucede en nuestras vidas, en esos momentos en que las fuerzas se agotan y no podemos mas, es el momento en que muchas veces recien dejamos actuar a Dios.

Porque hermanos, no queremos que ignoréis acerca de nuestra tribulación que nos sobrevino en Asia; pues fuimos abrumados sobremanera más allá de nuestras fuerzas, de tal modo que aun perdimos la esperanza de conservar la vida. 9 Pero tuvimos en nosotros mismos sentencia de muerte, para que no confiásemos en nosotros mismos, sino en Dios que resucita a los muertos; 10 el cual nos libró, y nos libra, y en quien esperamos que aún nos librará, de tan gran muerte; 11 cooperando también vosotros a favor nuestro con la oración, para que por muchas personas sean dadas gracias a favor nuestro por el don concedido a nosotros por medio de muchos.

Es muy fácil y con frecuencia los cristianos suponen que los problemas de hoy son muy diferentes a los problemas que existían en los tiempos bíblicos, es por eso que quizás se pregunte qué nos puede enseñar un viajero y predicador de los tiempos de Jesús, que nos puede enseñar el apóstol Pablo acerca de triunfar sobre la adversidad si hoy es un tiempo totalmente diferente al de él. Aunque la cultura de esos tiempo que rodeaba el apóstol Pablo era totalmente diferente a la nuestra, los pecados y las tendencias de nuestra humanidad son exactamente las mismas, las tentaciones y las pruebas no tienen nada de diferencia con lo que hoy experimentamos. Es por eso que el apóstol Pablo cuando escribió que estaba sobrepasado más allá de sus fuerzas, estaba reconociendo su debilidad, y esto daba credibilidad a sus palabras mediante su experiencia.
