Tarot - Whisper of the Mystic Cards
Combining the inner world of people with the unknown mystical cards and successfully blending elements of mystery and drama, the 2024 film Tarot was quite remarkable as one of the films that can be described as a new generation horror genre.
As someone who has just watched the movie and has not yet recovered from its impact, I can say that I liked the way the characters reflected their experiences, the way the story focused on certain lives and the way it transferred the tension to the audience little by little through all these.
The questioning of the characters in their previous lives and in the projected story, which is common in such films, is also present in Tarot, but I must say right away that the characters do not behave in a random and hasty manner. This increases the momentum and credibility of the story of the movie. If you are already immersed in the story as a viewer, you can feel the tension and fear.
The common characteristic of the main characters of the movie is that each of them has reached a turning point in their lives and feels themselves at a crossroads. The story of the movie involves confrontations about the past, present and future of these characters.
If I put aside the progression of tension and fear through mystical cards, the characters' inner and physical journeys constitute the main story of the movie. Of course, the turning point here is the chance encounter with the mystical cards and the person who has the ability to read them.
The meanings that the cards symbolize are reflections of the characters' own lives and each meaning reflects the inner world of the character in the movie. When this detail determines the character's future in the story, we see that love, death and similar analyses take place in sequence. The moments when these analyses take place are the moments when the horror aspect of the film peaks.
The story and visuals of the movie successfully deal with the supernatural powers and dark aspects of the mystical cards. The atmosphere created is quite impressive and the mystical atmosphere that runs concurrently with the story normalizes the existence of supernatural forces. This, as I said at the beginning, makes the fiction realistic and unique in my opinion.
I recommend you to watch Tarot, which manages to blend suspense with horror, to see the “journey of self-discovery” reflected through the characters and with its ever-increasing tempo. After watching the movie, you can believe in what the mystical cards say or you can completely move away from the mystical cards. Personally, I am in favor of the second choice.
