Another Earth - A chance to see our lost loved ones again on a new planet
I can say that the most dramatic sci-fi movie I have ever seen is Another Earth from 2011. The film identifies the existence of a new planet that enters the earth's atmosphere as a result of a new discovery and can be seen with the naked eye with the accident caused by a character who causes the destruction of a family by driving drunk.
The drama of the father, who loses his pregnant wife and young child in the accident, is introduced, so to speak, into the life of the female driver who causes the accident by driving under the influence. Even though the opposite happens in the accident, the regret of causing death by drunk driving comes to the fore more. That's why I can say that the intertwining of the lives of the person experiencing the drama and the person causing the drama is perfectly portrayed.
You are left incredibly curious about how the existence of the new planet that appears at the time of the accident will be connected to what is going on. The script is great, the performances of the actors are as good as they can be, but the story moves very slowly and stagnantly. It might be due to the effort to make the audience feel the dramatic aspect of the movie more intensely.
The factors that led to the emergence of the discourse of world 1 and world 2 are successfully hidden for a while in the movie. The details between the two worlds become clear in harmony with the dramatic aspect of the movie. When it is already clear, the perfect connection of the drama aspect of the movie with the science fiction aspect is revealed and you enjoy the movie incredibly.
The new world that is discovered is an exact copy of the one we live in, so whatever is in this world is in the other. When this fact is revealed in the story, you can make a direct connection with the dramatic scenes. In other words, the drama and the sci-fi aspect, which have been separate and independent from each other up to that point, come together spontaneously and the puzzle pieces of the story fall into place and present us with the big picture. In other words, it offers everyone who has lost loved ones in this world the opportunity to see them in the next. Of course, along with happiness, many questions arise, but it seems that we have to wait a little longer for the answers.
Another Earth has a very different scenario, I liked the way the story is handled and the way the pieces are put together. While you think you are watching a dramatic movie, you feel like you are solving a puzzle and your sense of curiosity is triggered a lot. The sci-fi aspect of the movie is based on the newly emerged planet, but it's not weak at all. While all the burden of the movie is met with the drama scenes, the way it was connected to the sci-fi aspect was exemplary.
Brit Marling, who gives life to the character of Rhoda, who causes death by driving under the influence, shows a very successful performance both in the way she expresses her regret and in her attempts to make amends. Although she has served her sentence, the fact that she continues to punish herself in her conscience and seeks ways out of the situation she is in makes the character of Rhoda a good example for each of us in our own life stories.
I can summarize Another Earth as a blending of a real life story with a miraculous invention that is too miraculous to be true. I highly recommend watching the movie and I would like to say again that the script was fantastic. Thank you very much for being here and reading and I wish everyone who will watch it a good time.
