Curator Cat: Happy National Black Cat Day!
Greetings, Fabulous Felines and Hoomans of Hivelandia and surrounding communities!
I hope Monday is treating you well... it's a special day today because it is National Black Cat Day!

Yes, that really is a thing, at least in the UK and here in the USA.
It happens every year on October 27th, just a few days before Halloween. It was established in 2011 by UK-based animal welfare charity, Cats Protection, who found that black cats took around a week longer to find homes than cats of other colors.

This tiny black kitten found his forever home!
Since then, the day has grown into a worldwide celebration of black cats, highlighting their charm and beauty, and providing information to dispel the many negative myths surrounding black cats.
It also serves as an awareness campaign and encouragement for people to adopt a black cat, since they end up staying longer at shelters before getting adopted.

As mentioned, National Black Cat Day comes immediately before Halloween, meaning it's also a good time to educate people about the fact that most of the "dark myths" surrounding black cats are simply not true!
For example, there's an idea that black cats are "bad luck."
There's actually no evidence that black cats bring misfortune! This belief is a hangover from old superstitions, particularly from medieval Europe. In fact, many cultures embrace black cats as symbols of good luck; some pre-1800s sea captains would actually refuse to sail unless the ship had a black cat onboard!

Finally, we'd like to reiterate our Halloween request:
Because there still are many misguided superstitions surrounding black cats, we ask that — if you are owned by a black cat — please keep them indoors from a couple of days before Halloween till a couple of days after.
Sadly, there are still sick and twisted Hoomans out there who insist on using black cats as part of cruel and inhumane ceremonies, and that is just plain WRONG!

Please don't let anything bad happen to your black cat friend!
So there you have it! I hope you'll join me in celebrating black cats everywhere!
Thanks for stopping by our little cat blog, and we hope to see you again soon! In the meantime, have a lovely remainder of your week... and don't forget to enjoy plenty of naps in the sun!

These are some of the more active Cat Communities — why not join them ALL? Many of the allow you to share your cat posts, even if you started at a different community!
HiveCats by @curatorcat is a central "gathering place" for cat content on Hive; promoting the use of the #hivecats tag for feline content!
Cat Snaps by @manorvillemike is a place to post pictures of your cats when you don't have a whole lot to say beyond just sharing your cute photos!
Caturday by @saboin is a community where we get to celebrate posts relating to Saturday — aka "Caturday" — our own special day!
Cat Photos by @andrarchy is a "mixed use" cat content community; posts can be just photos or longer, as long as the subject is CATS!
Cats by @captainklaus (and Sissi!) is another "general" cat content community.
There are a number of other feline communities listed on Hive, but I am not sharing them for now as they have not had any activity (by their Admins OR users) since the Steem/Hive fork. Updates as they become available!
