In this day and age where we are — allegedly — more connected than ever, I seem to spend more and more time alone, in large part because I have a really hard time relating to most of humanity and what most people are interested in and preoccupied by.

Like many people in the world I have quite a few "online friends" whom I know purely as a result of my involvement in various social media platforms whether it's Facebook or Instagram or X/Twitter or something else.

Of course the moment you get involved with groups, conversations and debates you start having people sending you stuff; sharing stuff.

And that's where my eyes start to glaze over and I invariably end up at the question "Why is this stuff even taking up space and bandwidth in your brain?"

Most of it reminds me of a latter day version of 1980's Jerry Spinger or Geraldo episodes.

"On the next Geraldo: Men Who Were Raised by Schools of Seahorses!"

I wasn't interested when I was in college, and I'm not interested now.

I suppose the thing that really concerns me is the fact that most of these "news stories" primarily sound like they were just randomly pulled out of thin air... and yet? Here we have (allegedly) college educated individuals in their 30s and 40s treating all this with dead serious sincerity.

And that rather worries me for the world, and for all of us.

I sometimes wonder whether the obsession with outlandish conspiracy theories and what thereof follows is primarily a reflection of the fact that the world we live in is getting harder and harder to navigate.

Since real life has become such a pervasive drag, let's put our faith in some completely implausible theory that allows us to forget that everything pretty much sucks!

Maybe I am just too much of a scientist or rationalist to get into these explorations of the strange... and I also realize that I am basically revisiting my last post, and living in reality. Or not living in reality, as the case may be.

But pardon me, I am not going to be getting myself ready for The Rapture which is supposedly going to happen tomorrow. And I still don't understand why the "Michelle Obama is actually a man!" idea is still doing the rounds...

For about the 100th time...

Frankly, I'd rather go plant something in the garden. Or take a walk on the beach.
