Redemption Lunch at Somerset... Monster Western’s Ramly Beef Burger Fix

Yesterday’s lunch in Somerset felt like a mission accomplished moment, because I finally got what I came for: a proper burger at Monster Western.

A few months ago, I actually visited the same place with the same craving. I was already imagining that juicy, messy bite… only to be told the burger wasn’t available anymore. It was night time then, and they said it was sold out. I’m not going to lie, I was frustrated (because when your mind is already set on a burger, nothing else feels the same, LOL). So this time, I made sure I planned it properly, go during lunch, arrive early enough, and secure the burger before it disappears again.

When I reached Monster Western, the first thing that hit me was the menu. It’s one of those places where they have so many items that you can easily freeze for a few minutes just staring at the options. It’s a bit overwhelming, but honestly, it’s also exciting because it means there’s a lot to explore if you’re the type who likes returning to try “one more thing.”

Good thing I already had my order in mind before I arrived.

I went straight for their specialty: Ramly Beef Burger.

And when the plate arrived… wah, I got happy immediately. The vibe of this place is definitely generous serving, and they don’t pretend to be minimalist. My plate was filled with salad, fries, and of course the burger sitting in the middle like the star of the show.

Funny thing is, the burger actually looked “small” at first, but only because the plate was huge and the side dishes were plentiful. Once you lift it up and see what’s inside, you’ll understand it’s not small at all. It’s just surrounded by abundance.

The burger came in a sesame bun and the filling was exactly the kind of combo that makes a burger feel satisfying without needing too many fancy ingredients: beef patty, cheese, fried egg, and a variety of sauces. That egg was doing the most in the best way, slightly runny yolk, edges a little crisp, and it added that creamy richness that makes every bite taste more “complete.” The cheese melted into the patty, and with the sauces together, it became that classic messy burger moment (the kind where you accept that your hands will not stay clean, and you don’t even care).

Now, the sides.

The salad was simple, mostly lettuce with a bit of purple cabbage, and a white creamy dressing drizzled over. It wasn’t trying to be a “health bowl” or anything, but it did its job: refreshing crunch, a cooling contrast, and it helped balance out the heaviness of the burger and fries. Sometimes simple is exactly what you need.

But the real surprise for me was the fries.

The fries were so good. Freshly cooked, thick cut, with that golden crunchy exterior and soft, fluffy inside. The texture was perfect, especially when you bite into one and it has that slight crisp “shell” before it turns into warm potato. I could tell they weren’t the sad limp fries that sit too long under a heat lamp. These were the kind that makes you keep reaching for “one more” even when you’re already full.

And honestly? These fries made the whole meal more satisfying. A good burger is already a win, but a good burger with great fries feels like a full-on comfort meal.

Overall, I’m glad I went back because this was the burger experience I wanted the first time. Next on my list: I’m returning soon to try their classic cheeseburger (because if the Ramly version is this enjoyable, I want to see how they do the basics too).

Bon appetit!

That burger looks very different from what we have here in the USA

True! Ramly-style burgers here are messier and more egg-heavy… very local vibe.

I don't quite recall where this coffeeshop is at. Is this Cineleisure? (the one next to the really popular new-ish Mala Shop)
