Hive Musings: Thriving Through Engagement and Building Connections
Last year, I started a practice of engaging with comments on my posts and rewarding them with upvotes. The reward may only amount to a few cents, but I do it to show appreciation to those who take the time to leave thoughtful comments. I even reward simple comments, as long as I feel they are authentic. The reason I make this effort is that commenting requires time and thought, and it’s worth acknowledging that.
Many of us begin our journey on Hive from humble beginnings. Not everyone joins the platform with a substantial stake or an established network of supporters. For new users, the primary way to connect and grow is through engagement.

One reality about the platform that users must understand is that, whether you remain anonymous or make your personal information public, your influence is ultimately tied to the amount of stake you hold. However, I believe you can earn the community’s trust even as an anonymous user if you grow your stake responsibly and avoid actions like spamming or plagiarism, which are not tolerated.
Hard work pays off

There are several ways to earn on Hive. You can actively create content or comment on posts, or you can invest in Hive Power (HP) to earn through curation. Personally, I see curation as the smartest way to earn. All it requires is consuming content and upvoting. Alternatively, you can follow a curation trail to earn passively. Both are effective ways to make use of your voting power.
Some might argue that posting content is the best way to earn. While it demands hard work and the rewards can sometimes feel disappointing, the effort becomes worthwhile when your content catches the attention of curators.
I’ve seen new users who learned the right approach to content creation and engagement grow their accounts from zero stake to the minnow level (580 HP+) in just one month. With that pace, they could potentially reach dolphin status (5,800 HP+) within a year (or less) if they consistently reinvest their earnings into curation.
If I were to offer one piece of advice to new users, it would be to reinvest their earnings for at least one full crypto cycle (around four years). This approach is an excellent way to exponentially grow your stake. I believe that being both a creator and a curator offers the best earning potential because you’re not only growing your stake actively but also expanding your network and connections on the platform. Of course, this advice doesn’t consider risks, which would require a separate discussion.
Know the Right Community for Your Content

Most curators scout for content within the communities they support or manage. While there are large, community-neutral curation groups, many curators tend to specialize in specific types of content. I’ve observed this based on my own one-month experience as a guest curator for Ecency. Although I wasn’t given specific instructions about what content to curate, I naturally gravitated toward topics that interested me. While my perspective doesn’t represent all curators, I believe many have their preferences. If users align their posts with a curator’s preferences, their chances of getting upvotes increase significantly.
The welcoming nature of the Hive community makes it easier for new users to adapt to the platform’s culture and find success in their content creation journey. This is one reason I’ve remained active on the platform regardless of market conditions. Whether in a bear or bull market, the attention and rewards for my posts keep me motivated to continue my daily hustle.
I may not have had the best start on this platform, but I’ve learned from my past mistakes and now have a deeper understanding of what Hive is all about. When you compare it to Web2 platforms, you’ll see that Web3 had it right all along. True data ownership and the decentralized nature of Hive are things Web2 platforms simply cannot replicate, no matter how generous their creator rewards may be.

Hive is a platform where hard work, consistent engagement, and a focus on building your stake can lead to both personal growth and meaningful connections. Whether through content creation, curation, or reinvesting earnings, the opportunities to succeed are endless for those willing to put in the effort. By embracing Hive's unique culture of collaboration and decentralization, users can unlock the true potential of Web3 and achieve lasting success in the blockchain space.

I been in Hive for 7 years. But at times I took breaks and was less active(especially in commenting on posts of others) so my stake is not what it could be. Now I am more active so my account is growing faster but I could still do better. Nice, informative post.
That's great to hear! I'm fortunate that someone advised me to engage with the community, and I'm glad I took their advice seriously.
It has turned out to be the most effective way to grow my network on the platform.
You're doing great with your engagement—keep it up, man!
Great post!
Engagement is very important to grow your network of people with same interests.
PeakD Snaps really helps with this.
I prefer a combination of the three. It does take extra time, but it gives more reward. Both in cryptocurrencies as in engagement from others.
A thought that someone shared with me before, which keeps resonating, is that 'Engagement is King.' At first, it didn’t make sense to me, but as I maintained consistent activity on the platform, I realized just how true it is. Now, I can confidently share this advice, especially with new users of the platform.
Some people may think that creating quality posts is enough to succeed here, but I would suggest adding meaningful engagement to their activity. This combination gives them a much better chance of achieving success on the platform.
And yes, to truly thrive here, one has to be a multi-faceted user. That’s what makes it the best experience, in my opinion! :)
One main thing I love about hive is that it pays you for the content you might get nothing on anywhere else.
I see many newbies complaining if they get less or nothing on any one of their blogs, but they don't see that hive is rewarding their content which might be worth nothing somewhere else.
Well, sometimes the hive seems a little strict too as I have seen people with stakes leaving it but we don't know the inside story so no comments about that... Overall, hive is a great place to stay.
You are right. On youtube I only got 2 followers so I could only dream about being paid for my let's play videos.
Haha, actually the competition there is too high, that's why it happens
I completely agree! There’s no other platform where I’d choose to dedicate my time and effort besides Hive.
Web2 users might spend their time trying to exploit algorithm loopholes, but I’d much rather focus on building meaningful connections here. The constantly changing algorithms of Web2 platforms, dictated by whoever owns them, are just not worth the hassle.
On Hive, at least, we are in control of our own destiny. Yes, it takes hard work, but that only makes the journey more rewarding—knowing that you gave it your all to achieve your goals on the platform. 😊
Thank you for stopping by my post and leaving such kind feedback. Cheers, and happy TGIF!
Exactly, you hold your own tiny world here, the freedom this platform provides is literally unmatchable.
Thanks a lot @ahmedhayat for curating my post.
All the best, @hivepakistan
Their attempts to intimidate and silence their critics are equally concerning. The use of downvotes as a means of censorship is a clear indication of their desperation to maintain their grip on the narrative. But it's not working

The Hive community has been plagued by a rise in spam accounts sharing stolen content. Many of these accounts appear to be linked to a single super farm that we've exposed @memesandstuff superfarm and we believe a prominent whale may be behind it
A Call to Action Against Downvote Abuse on Hive
Bad downvotes on Hive are a growing concern that must be addressed. These downvotes not only discourage users from sharing their real thoughts and ideas but also damage the community as a whole, we see many walk away

The Buildawhale farm scam has been a topic of concern for us, and we've exposed it. However, despite our attempts to bring attention to this issue, it seems that no concrete actions have been taken to address it. This lack of response is puzzling
Let's discuss a more serious issue that affects all on Hive. The prevalence of bad downvotes on Hive is a major concern, and we urge you to speak up if you've been affected by it. Don't be afraid to share your experiences speak up
Excellent recommendations. I don't know much about crypto and have a dismal record in investing, anywhere. But I am courteous :) That's what engagement is all about. If someone says hello to you, say hello back. That's what we do in the physical world. In the Hive universe, a comment on your post warrants acknowledgement. The only time I ignore a comment is when it is obvious spam...no relationship to the post at all.
As for communities: sometimes I wonder where I should post a blog. I want to write about something but it may not fit into community guidelines. There are a couple of communities here, though that invite writers to post on just about any subject. However, that doesn't mean someone will read the post, or enjoy it:)
There is another important aspect to being here. When we have established a footing on the platform, no matter how modest, it is only decent to extend a hand to those who are starting out. Plus, that's how Hive survives. New bloggers staying long enough to have a stake.
Well, that's my two cents. Your post resonated with me because it is so practical and chuck full of useful advice for new bloggers.
Thank you, @agmoore! I really appreciate your feedback on my post.
You brought up some very important points in your comment, and I wanted to highlight them as well. I think being courteous is a trait that many people struggle to maintain when interacting on the internet, which makes me wonder—why is that? Why are we generally more courteous in person than online (especially on Web2 platforms)?
This is one of the things that sets Hive (Web3) apart from mainstream (Web2) social media apps. Hive users are generally more courteous and generous with their compliments. While I can't always be sure how authentic or genuine it is, I’d much rather interact with people who have an optimistic outlook than those who are overly focused on negativity and hatred.
That’s why I prefer spending my time here on Hive rather than anywhere else on the internet. 😊
Moreover, Hive is generally more welcoming to new users than other platforms (at least in my experience). So, if someone is looking to start their content creation journey—or even begin a side career—Hive is a great place to start. Who knows? It might even become a lifelong hobby!

I agree that doing engagement in the community is a good way to grow and earn
Indeed. Engagement is a good way to learn and earn 👍
Engagement is a great way to learn new things and understand some important stuffs also being rewarded
That's right. Keep it up, i think you're doing well.
How to invest in HP and curation?
I want to invest.
May you please guide me?
You may lease HP using Hive-Engine Leasing platform, here's the link:
https://hive-engine.com/lease
Please bear in mind that the price if leasing is too competitive right now and you may end up losing money.
The best option right now is to buy Hive and stake it, have your own HP to use for curation which will guarantee profit without loss in terms of Hivepower gains.
This is very accurate as I am gaining some hive through engaging on contents
In case you're not aware yet, one of best ways to engage is through PeakD Snaps. You may check it here:
