Cheesy Scrambled Egg Rice Kind of Friday at JEM 🍳🧀
Tonight’s dinner adventure brought me all the way to the west side of Singapore, JEM, or Jurong East Mall.

I rarely go to this area, so I decided to make the most of it and have my dinner there. And since I’m a big fan of food courts, I headed straight to the Kopitiam Food Hall, which I honestly think might be the best Kopitiam I’ve seen so far.

This Kopitiam at JEM feels huge compared to the ones I usually visit.

The space opens up into this bright, lively dining hall packed with different stalls, and it really feels like they tried to cover almost every cuisine you can crave in the city. From Ban Mian and fishball noodles, to soups, mala dishes, curry, Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian and even Filipino food, it’s like a mini food festival happening indoors.

The interior design is surprisingly cozy for a food court. I like the uniform, modern look of the stalls and the lovely seating area with warm lighting and clean lines. It feels organized instead of chaotic, even though the place was pretty crowded when I arrived. People were queuing at almost every stall, which is always a good sign when you’re hunting for dinner.

For tonight’s meal, I decided to try something modern and trendy instead of my usual classic noodle or rice dishes. One stall immediately caught my eye, DanLao, a scrambled egg rice concept.

Their menu is simple but fun, think scrambled egg rice topped with different proteins, sauces, and cheese. Yes, cheese on egg rice. How could I not try that? 😂

I went all in and ordered the Chicken Cutlet Scrambled Egg Rice with Cheese, priced at SGD 8.30. For a chicken dish in a food court, it’s definitely on the pricey side, which tells me this is one of those “trendy” items you order more for the experience and novelty. The bowl came with a generous bed of fluffy scrambled eggs over rice, a big portion of crispy chicken cutlet, and a slice of cheese slightly torched on top. Very Instagrammable.

My first bite was just rice and scrambled egg, and honestly, that alone already made me happy. The egg was buttery, soft, and rich, coating every grain of rice in this creamy, silky layer. I felt like I could finish a bowl of just egg and rice and still walk away satisfied 😂 The flavor was comforting, like elevated homestyle food.

On my second bite, I made sure to get everything together, egg, rice, chicken, and melted cheese. That’s when the real flavor explosion happened. The chicken cutlet was crispy on the outside, tender inside, and when mixed with the gooey cheese and buttery egg, it became this super savory, cheesy, meaty combo. Very shiok, but also very rich. After a few spoonfuls, I started wishing I had ordered a fresh, citrusy drink to cut through all that richness.

Overall, it was a very satisfying dinner and a fun dish to try. I definitely see why this style of cheesy scrambled egg rice is popular with the younger crowd, it’s comforting, indulgent, and looks great in photos. Next time I’m back at JEM Kopitiam and feel like trying another DanLao bowl, I’ll pair it with an iced lemon tea or something refreshing to balance everything out.

Hope you’re all having a wonderful Friday night too. Happy TGIF! 🥳✨
