Capturing the Plumeria Tree in Black and White (Monomad Challenge)

I was browsing through the communities I joined and checking the last time I contributed to them. One of the communities I was previously active in was the Black and White Photography community, and I realized it had been a long time since I last posted there. That was a sign that I should go out and take some photos for this community. With the beautiful weather we're having right now, I was sure it would lead to something bright and lively.

I took photos of the Plumeria tree in my backyard. Although the lighting and colors looked nice, I still decided to convert them to black and white because of the tree’s striking texture. Good lighting and texture are all I need to appreciate a monochromatic photo. So, while taking the pictures, I specifically framed parts of the tree that showcased its beauty.

From the bark of the branches to the algae growing on the trunk, I focused on the intricate details. I also captured the orchids growing on the dying part of the tree. Although I'm not entirely sure if the orchids are responsible for its decline, I feel they add an interesting element to the photo.

Plumeria is one of the most beautiful medium-sized trees I know. Its branches grow in a dramatic, seemingly random way, making each tree’s growth pattern unique.

While the flowers appear soft and delicate, the bark of older Plumeria trees is rough and textured. The contrast between the bark and the flowers is striking. These trees also grow very slowly, which is probably why they live so long.

Plumeria trees have a unique beauty that shines in both color and monochrome, revealing the contrast between their delicate flowers and rugged bark. Capturing them in black and white allows me to appreciate their texture and form in a different light. This reminds me that sometimes, stripping away the colors helps us see the true essence of things.

Black and white really brings out the depth in the Plumeria’s texture. The contrast between the rough bark and delicate flowers looks even more, what's the word 🤔.. pronounced without color getting in the way

Great images of an amazing flower!
I love plumeria and we have some of this near my home, so I usually go and cut a few flowers when they bloom!
I would never think they would look so good in black and white (but maybe its because the photos are yours! :)

Have a nice weekend!

Thanks so much! Had to check out 1950s and realized that you're right. It has good contrast. Thanks!

Flowers are not only an inseparable part of nature, but are also part of our spiritual well-being and the beauty of life in general.
