A Satisfying Cycling Dinner at Old Airport Road Food Centre
It has been quite a while since I last dined at Old Airport Road Food Centre, so I decided to make my way there by bicycle. For me, cycling to a food destination always makes the whole experience even better. It gives me time to build up a proper appetite, and by the time I arrive, I already feel like I have earned a really satisfying meal. That is one of the reasons why food adventures like this are so enjoyable to me. The journey becomes part of the reward.

Old Airport Road Food Centre has always been one of my top go-to hawker centres because of the huge variety of food available there. Whenever I come here, I know I will have plenty of choices, which is both exciting and dangerous at the same time. It is the kind of place where you can easily end up wanting to eat more than you originally planned. The atmosphere also adds to the experience. There is always a lively energy in the air, with so many stalls, so many aromas, and so many people coming for their favorite dishes.

For this dinner, I started with my drink first. I ordered my usual Teh-O Lemon Ice, which is one of my favorite drinks after cycling because it feels refreshing and cooling right away. But I have to admit, I was surprised by the price. It cost SGD 3.00, which is probably the most expensive Teh-O Lemon Ice I have had so far. I honestly could not believe that a simple drink could cost that much. Maybe this is part of dining at a very popular food centre, where even basic drinks start to feel a bit premium. Still, after a long ride, I was too thirsty to complain too much.

Thankfully, the food itself still felt reasonably affordable.

For my main meal, I went straight to Chef Wang Fried Rice, a stall that I personally consider one of the best when it comes to fried rice. I ordered their Pork Chop Egg Fried Rice, and the moment I saw the plate, I already knew I was in for something good. There was a generous slab of pork chop laid across the rice, and it definitely looked substantial. But once I started eating, I realized something funny: the fried rice itself was so good that the pork chop almost became secondary.
That is really the mark of a great fried rice stall.

The rice had excellent texture, and you could tell it was cooked with real care. Every grain seemed properly coated with flavor, and the egg was fried into the rice so beautifully that everything came together in a very natural and balanced way. It was not dry, which is important for me, but moist enough to stay enjoyable from the first bite to the last. There was a richness and fragrance to it that made it deeply satisfying, and I found myself focusing more on the rice than on the meat. When that happens, you know the base dish is already a winner.
The pork chop, of course, was still very enjoyable. It added a savory, meaty element to the plate and made the meal more filling. But what stayed with me most was really the fried rice itself. The flavor was spot on, and there was a kind of confidence in the way it was prepared. You can tell this stall truly specializes in fried rice, and that this is their flagship item for a reason.

After finishing my main meal, I still was not ready to head home just yet. Since this was Old Airport Road after all, I decided to end the night with something sweet. I got a peach cheesecake and a muffin, which made the dinner feel even more indulgent. By that point, I had to laugh at myself because I definitely ate a lot more than I originally planned.
Still, that is part of the fun of food adventures like this. A good cycling session, a beloved hawker centre, an excellent plate of fried rice, and dessert to finish the night, that sounds like a very successful dinner to me.
