A Comfort Bowl Worth the Trip... Lamb Rib Soup at The Sichuan Sheep Chronicles (Lorong 1 Geylang)

It’s been a while since I last had a proper lamb meat soup, the kind that feels like a warm reset button for your whole day, so last night I decided to make my way to Lorong 1 Geylang for a guaranteed comfort meal at one of my personal favorites: The Sichuan Sheep Chronicles. The name sounds dramatic (in a good way), and honestly, the soup here deserves that level of storytelling.

First things first: getting there is easy. The restaurant sits along Lorong 1 Geylang, just a convenient short walk from Kallang MRT. If you’re like me and you prefer places that don’t require a long “treasure hunt” after public transport, this is a big win. There are bus stops nearby too, so accessibility is not an issue at all.

Now let’s talk about one underrated factor that makes me come back: ambience. Some restaurants serve great food but make you feel like you need to eat fast and evacuate. This one is the opposite. The dining space is comfortable, the seating feels spacious, and the air-conditioning is spot on, the kind of cool that keeps you relaxed, not the kind that turns your soup session into a shivering contest. From the festive red decor to the clean, cozy layout, it’s the type of place where you can actually enjoy your meal slowly.

I went straight for what I was craving: Lamb Rib Soup. When the bowl arrived, I had that small moment of joy where you instantly know you made the right choice. The broth looked creamy and pale, with fresh greens floating on top and little pops of color from goji berries. The first sip was exactly what I wanted, subtle but very satisfying. It’s not a loud, heavily spiced soup that punches you in the face. Instead, it’s gentle, soothing, and comforting, like it’s quietly doing its job… and doing it extremely well.

The lamb ribs were another highlight. Tender, soft, and pleasant to eat, without that “overly gamey” taste that sometimes scares people away from lamb. The meat felt like it had been patiently cooked until it knew how to behave, easy to bite, enjoyable to chew, and perfect with the broth.

While ordering, I was also given a choice of noodles. I picked ramen noodles because I wanted something filling, and I thought it would pair nicely with the lamb. When I started eating, I was genuinely impressed by how generous the portion was. The noodles were smooth and satisfying, and they made the whole bowl feel like a complete meal, not just a “light soup” situation.

And here’s the fun part: the condiments and side dish counter. You can freely take some pickled radish and seaweed salad while waiting for your food, which I honestly love because it makes the experience feel more generous and interactive. There’s even dessert available after the meal, which is such a nice touch.

Oh, and their chilli paste and chili oil? I don’t usually consume chili, but this restaurant is an exception. It’s that good. A little bit on the side can totally change the flavor mood if you feel like switching it up.

In total, I paid SGD 13.74, and I can confidently say it was totally worth it. Yes, it can feel a little pricey for soup, but the portion, comfort, and satisfaction make the price feel justified. This was one of those meals that leaves you happy and calm, exactly what I wanted.

Bon appetit.
