The most brutal match of AoM Retold I've ever played

The most brutal match I've ever played
Welcome everyone to a tale of brutal attrition and mythical might, it's a tale of Age of Mythology retold. But not just any tale. This is the most brutal match of Age of Mythology retold I have ever participated in with insane stats like 7 titans killed and hundreds of thousands of resources harvested by both sides. Despite being a long battle this fight was actually very strategically engaging and not just plowing masses of units into each other. If it wasn't over 3 hours long I'd have uploaded it for everyone to see (maybe I'll edit it down into a cool compilation someday we will see). If anyone is curious as to how this game plays it's similar to AoM extended edition .
A long road to victory: Play by play
The game actually didn't start off great for me and my allies (AtTreyFive and Filo) we were assaulted early and suffered many early casualties and building destruction. Even though it was hard to recover from the pressure everyone managed to establish a foothold.
The game boiled down to a few key strategic positions, one of them being a particular sandy passageway that was a choke point that forced the enemy to engage in a tight space under tower fire. The enemy still managed to push this position over time and the tit for tat went back and forth for HOURS.
The first titans that came out (and majority of the titans produced) were made by both me and Athens. The one game changing moment being killing the enemy titan with normal human units inches before it had an opportunity from taking down my titan gate as it was being built to summon my titan.
After this there were various engagements of titan vs titan action until finally the enemy wonder (the building that allows for production of more than one titan) was destroyed. This required extensive pushing, micro, resource management, and communication to pull off. During my whole engagement around my base and with the titans I had to also re-enforce my allies with calvary.
Playing with the new Chinese pantheon was fun, and the creatures and design is a lot more thought out and interesting than in AoM extended edition. It's actually quite astounding.
Beautiful Destruction: Eye Candy
This game really is beutiful, and the photo mode is very fun to tinker around with. That's where all the screenshots in this post come from actually. No HUD etc. just to capture the amazing new visuals for the remake. The wheat has never looked wheatier. I would say this post is about both a epic win/clutch moment and also just generally visually appealing scenery and screenshots. I know it ended up being a bit of a screenshot dump, but I have been excited for this game so I'm not sorry about that haha. I just wanted to take a moment to notice how improved the visuals are, building actually crumble and get destroyed etc.
Talking Tidbits: AoM Retold Thusfar
Playing Age of Mythology Retold has been a blast so far, and is in fact the best iteration of Age of Mythology I have played up until this point. They kept all of the classic elements of the title intact and improved the visuals, balance, and online play experience. There is nothing not to love. Also the chinese pantheon is leagues better than in any other previously existing Age of Mythology title. I have had a lot of fun playing this and it will probably be one of my go to RTS until the wheels fall off.
I love seeing a remake done right like this. Keeping the charm of the original while improving on visuals is the way. It looks a lot better than I thought it would and even just looking at the pictures brings up a lot of nostalgia. Well done and good luck in the contest!
Totally agree. Keep the good stuff improve the graphics and eye candy. Thanks for checking out my post man. Hope you're doing good out there.
Man, I had no idea this new version of AOM Retold had such an epic camera mode, you can capture impressive moments.
Truthfully I had quite a bit of fun zooming about trying to get the right angles. It's pretty cool for the mass battles also of zooming around and stuff. I hope they add a video mode of the stills or a way to export a recording of your saved games. Cheers and thanks for coming out man. !PIZZA

I freakin love AoM: Retold. I played through the campaign for the first time last year? And I was blown away, and also sad that I never played the original back in the day.
Then I played so much coop vs bots with a friend, until the coop campaign thing came out, and we had a blast.
This game was incredible value for money, and is so refreshing for the RTS genre. I wish all the old RTS games from my youth could get this sort of loving remaster and treatment.
The quality of life in gameplay is amazing. On top of the actual game being amazing as well. Good write up, and great screenshots! :)
AoM Retold is amazing. However holo, the one thing I had to do and I do recommend is using the "original voice acting" mod from the workshop for doing the campaign. AoM extended and the original version has a much better spread of voice actors from things like Avatar the last Airbender etc. I couldn't go back to any other voice acting and become spoiled lol. I wish more games got the treatment that AoM did. Lovingly restored instead of quickly angling for a cash grab.
Thanks for taking the time to read my post and the kind words. Hope you are having a good one out there. Cheers. !PIZZA
No, I play Hades. Vaults of plenty everywhere.
I still haven't gotten through the oriental DLC for this one yet, I paid for it, because I got enough enjoyment out of the base game to completely justify it.
I will get to it, but I don't know when. I have way too much stuff distracting me and vying for my undivided attention, I don't know how I get anything at all done!
