Same House 4 Robberies This Week

Not Such A Secure Area After All

This week we are starting to see how bad things are in our not so protected area as one house has been broken into 4 times this week. I am not sure if it was broken into 4 times or entered 4 times as how quickly do you repair the damages? Mine would be done the same day ,but not sure about what others do. This lot seem quite relaxed about this and I am actually feeling sorry for this guy as it is clearly not his fault and his neighbors who are the lax ones.

When you live in a gated community it is your job to make sure your property is secure if it backs onto properties not included in the protected zone. Having security weaknesses threatens everyone else and why it is up to each property to make sure they are secure.

You Are Only As Strong As Your Weakest link

The thief or thieves are not entering into the protected area via his property and his neighbors clearly state they know where it is happening coming from their back yard. They say the barbed wire is being cut and the bricks are being removed from the back boundary wall so they or he can enter underneath the electric fence. This has taken months to find this out and they have never mentioned or revealed this important information before. This is unacceptable and they know they are in the wrong by not doing the required work on their properties.

I have not seen the properties in question and they say they have enough cameras ,but obviously not facing in the right areas which is a problem. I personally did not want to get involved, but I guess I have no choice now as we are having a meet up tomorrow. At one point I was the only muppet walking around the streets at 2am in the morning and saw no one else lifting a finger.

The house that has been broken into 4 times this week is being entered via his neighbors property and this is not really his fault unless he electrifies the entire property which some of us have done. never rely on others around you and always make sure your security is better than theirs so the criminal selects their property as it is easier and not yours is my view on security.

My view is a stakeout for Friday and Saturday night and the problem should be solved. Obviously this house is irresistible having visited this place 4 times within one week and they or he will surely return. I wish every problem in life was this simple and once the person or people are caught then we can ask our neighbors to fix their wall and forget the cheap barbed wire solution.

The problem is they are gaining access via another road crossing one property to get into our protected zone and then hopping the boundary walls selecting any property they want to access in that stretch if they have no security in between the houses.

The chances are if you do this legally the criminal will be out and about within a week and this will be a repeat exercise unless you make an example of the criminal and teach him some lessons. There are certain houses you just do not touch for obvious reasons because you just know those occupants are aware and the risk is higher. We shall see how this plays out, but these people are just too nice and they have literally invited trouble into the area.

Is it legal to shoot intruders entering your property in SA?

Yes as long as their body falls inside the house and not in the garden. If they are carrying a weapon then yes you can shoot them in the garden as well. The laws are more for protecting the criminals though and you have to know where you stand legally.

Where are the policemen when all these repeated thefts in one property are happening? It's a strange matter, my brother.

We have private security as police are non existent here and you cannot rely on them. This house did not tell us and he only told us yesterday how bad things were. If we had known we would have helped.

This post perfectly highlights the importance of everyone in the community being aware of their security not just individually but as a coordinated collective effort.

I think the impression is clearly overall weakness that's why the thief keeps coming back again and again. I'm not sure, but it could also be of an inside job via the neighbours allowing the criminals to pass through without any form of resistance.
