Poor Umpiring, Poor Parenting

source

During yesterdays tennis match between Aryna Sabalenka and Emma Raducanu the umpire asked the players if she would like them to send a child out of the stadium because it was not being kept quiet. This should never have even been asked and the parents should have been aware that they should respect everyone else and leave.

Tennis is different to football or other sports as quiet is required for concentrating between the points. If you are not aware of this then you should not be attending a tennis tournament as this is just a given. Obviously the parents are either unaware or ignorant which is hard to believe or are just selfish and do not care which is probably closer to the truth.

Everyone has different tolerance levels when it comes to kids and noise or noise in general and this may not have effected the players, but it obviously did as they were waiting for the crying to stop in between points. This is a distraction you do not expect to have and will definitely cause you to lose concentration.

I expect that moving forward there will need to be age limits set who can and cannot attend and a baby with the parents will not be granted entry. This should have been normal and I have no clue why this was not in place or maybe it was just too obvious. Imagine having to explain this to people when this is common sense for the majority. Society is not what it was a short time ago and is unbelievable to think so many are missing the basics which we just knew.

Is it too woke to have a child and parent removed from a tennis match because that is the impression I am getting otherwise why did the umpire even ask the question. The child was ruining the match for everyone watching and can only imagine if I was sitting in close proximity because I would definitely have spoken to the parents. It seems people will rather keep quiet and not confront the issue at hand.

As a parent you have an obligation and responsibility to others around you and a tennis match is no place for a baby and why we have things called baby sitters. If you go to a restaurant or any public place you make sure your kid is not the one disturbing the peace and do what you can to make sure that is not the case. A restaurant is very different to an event that requires quiet periods. Another sport in the tennis bracket would be golf and I know the golfing community would remove the parents and baby if it was interfering with play.

I must admit I am a bit surprised this even happened and the worst thing is a professional umpire had to ask the players if they wanted a baby removed from the stadium as though this was a shock and horror moment. What is the big deal and this is not something that is wrong or to be seen as bad. This is not the kids fault and is all on the ignorant parents.

Everyone is so self absorbed and entitled these days. There is no chance it ever even occurred to them that they should not bring their kid to the match or actually leave once they were there. Was this in Cincinnati? I've been watching the matches from there.
