HIVE Killed My Laptop

I have been nursing this laptop for a few months and kind of guessed we were on the last legs.

The aim for this year was at some point to replace my laptop as it was on it's last legs being 10 years old and a 2015 model. We know most electronic devices only last around 4 or 5 years before they need to be upgraded so my laptop lasting 10 years is actually very good.

Yesterday for some reason the ethernet cable stopped working and the wifi would not connect. Drivers ad updates were checked along with testing other cables which resulted in a faulty adaptor in the laptop being the route cause. I experienced wifi issues before when we were in Portugal, but this was working back to normal when we returned to South Africa and I just left it. The hotspot is the only wifi that works now and this is not worth repairing ad fixing as this would be seen as throwing good money at bad.

I have realised from all of this that HIVE is a laptop killer due to the demands of staying active. In the 7 years I have been on HIVE I have managed to destroy three keyboards so I know to at least avoid the fancy light up keyboards as they do not last. This last keyboard I had replaced started showing signs of wear and tear after only 4 months which is only 120 posts excluding any comments. This was over 18 months ago and we are slowly losing the printed letters.

Certain keys do not function like they should and not having around 5 keys working is problematic as you look as though you cannot spell or lack an education. Each post takes an extra 30 minutes to rectify and even then there are still the occasional mistakes that slip through.

This laptop has seen my entire HIVE journey being responsible for nearly 5000 posts and thousands of comments. I cannot remember how much I paid for this back in 2015, but it has paid for itself and why it is advisable to get a decent spec and model. The abuse a laptop receives by working on HIVE is no normal workload and why the new spec replacement will be much different to what I have ow.

Having 20 tabs open at anyone time and spending may ours daily on HIVE would challenge any laptop and I am shocked this has not given up the ghost earlier. When I had someone check it out today once they realsed it was ancient technology they said throw it away and replace it. Just finding the right spares for this model will be a mission and not worth the time, trouble or expense.

I knew if we made it through this year then I would be replacing this at some point with the aim of actually buying 2. Having one for crypto and another as a spare for non crypto related uses is my deal set up with security in mind. The more crypto value we have the more serous this all becomes and I can only imagine how much this is all going to be worth in another 10 years time. Investing in our tools we use on a daily basis is a must and why I will be replacing this laptop within the next day or two.

I have a Lenovo machine really similar to that one in my office. I don't use it as much anymore, but it is a really good machine.

You should get at least one laptop and a hub that let's you run 3 screens and connect mice and keyboard to it. These days laptops can do a lot. Mine is a few years old and it has 64 Gig memory with 1TB SSD and processor like this:

This thing can handle pretty much anything you can throw at it and having an ergonomic Microsoft plug in keyboard is great for writing. Plus when you wear it out you can plug in a brand new one for just a few bucks :)

My setup:

I hear ya.. I sure hope this laptop that I'm on now lasts many more years. I prefer my desktop and all the full-sized periferals. May your future PC also last 10 yrs or more. 😉🤙👊

what are those keyboards made of? My last keyboard lasted for 10 years and it was still working fine but the mouse died, so i changed it to not use 2 USB ports.

To be honest i didn't write that much text with it :D

They are painted keyboards and they just wear out within a few months.

It's time to get another one, I've been using my Acer aspire core i3 since 2015, Lenovo is a good choice too

I can only tell you - Hive killed one Macbook plus a Windows one and the current one suffers already - need to buy a new Mac soon again - but since I am pushing Hive links on Reddit I got more and more performance issues - too many tabs opened :-)

Yes HIVE is very demanding on computers and I am hoping to get one more so this new one can just be for HIVE and crypto.
