Finding igi and snail in the rice fields

Some children came by with an adult here at our house; five kids and 1 adult they were going to collect snails from the rice fields. I was surprised that in less than 20 or 30 minutes they returned with their buckets full. They were walking home happily because their buckets filled up quickly, so I thought that there must be a lot of snails there. Because before, when I was a child, it took a long time for us to get a lot of snails.

So this afternoon, when it suddenly became hot and there was no rain, my husband invited me to pick snails because he wanted to taste them as well. Because in their area, they consume a different type of snail.

We went to the rice field with our dog, who wanted to come along haha.

In the first box of my father's rice field, we saw snails and igi. The snail and igi have different appearances, or shells, because the snail is round and the igi has a pointed back. We prefer to pick and find igi because it's tastier than snail.

My husband discovered vs. mine. He found many but I only found one hehe, because I didn't go down to the rice field because I was holding my son, who want to come along with us too. So I only saw it from the side of the embankment, haha. My husband was also looking for snails and igi.
The water in the rice field is deep because it has been raining for several days, and the mist has not stopped. It's a good thing the sun came out earlier, so my son and I could go outside.

He initially found only igi, but when he searched the other side of the rice field, he found nothing, so he took snails. Haha

Look how much the snails are feasting on my father's rice crop because even though the rice is big, the snails are still climbing and breaking it, so the rice is still dying, especially now that the snails have increased even more because of the flood that reached my father's rice field.

Lot's of snail eggs left on the grass on the embankment.

and there are also many of them here on the wood that supports the embankment. Also in every corner of the embankment I saw many of their eggs; no wonder why they multiply so quickly, because just one egg can give birth to many snails. That's why they can't be destroyed no matter how many pesticides the farmers put in their rice fields because when the flood comes, the snails will come back and multiply again.

My husband had already filled his little bucket after a few minutes, and we returned home once he was satisfied that the snails and igi he had caught were enough for the three of us. Me, him and my brother. He washed the snail with water first, allowing the snails to spit out what they had eaten and cleaning them up before cooking with adobo or ginataan tomorrow. I'm not sure what kind of dish he'd make because, if I had to choose, both would be delicious, hehe.

That's all for today, I just want to say Thankyou for your unwavering support of my post. See you on my next blog, Peace and love. 🫶🏻🤍

STOPNice to see this. I can remember my childhood with my grandparents. It was a nice experience.
Thankyou for stopping by po. Naranasan or Makita niyo rin po pala ito.
What about the eggs, do you eat them like we do with fish eggs?
No. The egg is not edible.
Ah okay, so if they are a pest, why not destroy them?
